Topics I've Started

The Psychic Quiz

21 June 2010 - 09:36 PM

This is really, really weird. Think of a person, anyone, even a H!P member, take the quiz and answer the questions. It will probably guess the person correctly. I thought of Miyazawa Sae from AKB48, and it guessed it correctly!

New Year's Resolutions

02 January 2010 - 04:44 AM

I'm surprised there's not already a topic about this. These things are a bit ritualistic, but I do think they can be helpful in recognising things to think about over the next year. Failing that, it's just a bit of fun.

Myself, I probably need to become thicker skinned, stop taking everything to heart and letting myself become concerned over relatively minor things. I can be my own worst enemy sometimes, and can become really hung up over other people's perceptions - this is not healthy. I can be really paranoid sometimes, and it doesn't help that my paranoia tends to be the truth, but I can't let myself become sidetracked by this.

I need to focus on my Japanese more, not be discouraged by people around me who may be better, and try and remember why I decided to study Japanese in the first place, and study on my own terms. Whether it's important things like being able to communicate whilst in Japan, or more minor things like watching AKB48 stuff, this is why I decided to do this, and I can't forget this. Lecturers will constantly place pressure on us to meet their expectations, and I live with people who will always be better at Japanese than me no matter how hard I study, but I have to remember why I enjoy it in the first place - certainly nothing to do with them.

Anyone else have any resolutions?

Learning Korean

14 July 2009 - 04:39 PM

I've decided to pick up some Korean language modules at university this year, alongside my Japanese course. I may regret this, but I'm going to go for it anyway.
I basically have zero knowledge of Korean, and although the modules assume no prior knowledge, I figure I may as well get a head start over the summer. Can anyone recommend -

1) A website to help me learn Hangul, and...

2) A beginners textbook for me to read through.

I contacted the Korean lecturers at university, who have been extremely helpful. However, the textbook we'll be using in class can only be obtained at the university, which is at the other side of the country. With that in mind, I just want something else to fill the void for now.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Happy Dance Collection (Japanese Wii)

25 December 2008 - 06:05 PM

Suprised no-ones made a topic about this already. got this today from the folks for Christmas. For the unfamiliar, it's an idol game for the Wii where you have to do the idol dances using the Wii Remote. On the H!P front it has LOVE Machine, CHANCE and Happy!, and there's plenty of other stuff there too. You unlock songs, stages, clothing and the like.

It's not dissimilar to Idolm@ster, except you actually play as the idols rather than manage them. Both are by Bandai-Namco too.

Sonic Unleashed

03 November 2008 - 10:13 PM

Only a few weeks away! After the abomination that was the last 360/PS3 game (the buggiest game I have ever played in my entire life, that's 23 years of gaming), it's understandable to approach this with just a bit of caution... but the Sonic nut in me still can't resist, and the footage online looks pretty awesome (warehog aside).

PS3 version for me, though it's worth noting that the Wii/PS2 version is going to be slightly different, and had a different development team (although the basic game is the same). PS2 version is only £14 if people want to do it on the cheap! The PS3/360 game has the free roaming element though, and for once it looks like they executed it properly.

No Sonic will ever touch the MegaDrive ones, I revisited them recently and their greatness is reaffirmed... but I'm hoping this'll at least bring us back to SA2-quality.
