Mirai is an ordinary middle school girl, a superb texter, tired of her family and annoyed by her little brother Yuuki. Over the summer, she takes her brother to Odaiba for a robot expo, a 8.0 earthquake rocks Tokyo and the series follows their journey home.

This was an excellent series, the story is touching but not overtly so, the characters are very natural. The animation style is more realistic, matching the subject matter well The quality of the animation is quite high and consistent.

My main critique of the series would be an underestimate of casualty and impact. Initial loss of life was 8-900. The earthquake happened at 3:46PM, beginning of PM rush, so there would be quite a few car crashes, I would imagine the death toll from that alone in a city the size of tokyo would be much more severe.

so, if you're interested in disaster themed dramas, I would recommend it.

I still recall 2003 was like the one year when Japan transitioned from VHS to DVD. US was very much still a dual media market, but japan transitioned from 10% dual release 90% VHS to 90%DVD and 10% dual (my impression, no actual stats) in roughly one year.

However, the bluRay transition seems to be going very slowly. There has been no HP bluRay releases and AKB only flirted with bluRay once.

But Japan seems much further than US in the HD TV transition, so I wonder what the hold up is on the content side? Seems that the only source of HD quality media seems to come from broadcasts.

What do you think the reason is? When do you think the transition will be? What will be the media (bluRay? streamed HD media?)

I liked the first ep alot. Of all the dramas this season, this is the only drama that actually balances the male and female lead. Most other dramas are either single lead, or unbalanced or too old.

Watching some H!P concerts this afternoon, it seems that many of Tsunku's songs have the word "kanashimi" in them. Don't know if it's because it's such a recognizeable word or what, but it seems like the most frequently used word in Tsunku/H!P songs (other than things like desu or kimi)

As for English, "boy" seems quite frequent
