How did I get into H!P?

I got interested in Hello! Project thanks to the awesome group that was Berryz Kobo. You see, I used to be somewhat of a fan of Pretty Cure when I was a kid, and one of those days while looking for OST from the series, I found a mp3 in a free music site and the song was just so fun and catchy that it became an instant favorite. Uuunfortunately, since said music site was kind of shabby, the file 1) didn't have the name of the artist/band 2) didn't have the title of the song 3) in fact, the song wasn't even complete! Basically it was just a 40 second or so mp3 file titled "Pretty Cure Movie ED" or something like that. Not much of a help.

I tried to get answers but I was young (I was just 10 years old), had never watched any of the Pretty Cure movies, and by that year (2011) there were quite a few Pretty Cure seasons with their respective movies (plus the crossover movies) so I didn't know where to start looking (I don't even remember if the Pretty Cure wiki existed back then). I spent more than a year trying to find that cute song on and off ('cause you know, life goes on), it wasn't until my ear became better at distinguishing Japanese words ('cause I occasionally listened to J-Pop and watched anime) and that I became more skilled at using the internet that I had the BRILLIANT idea of typing some of the words I could distinguish on Youtube's search bar lmao.

At first I got totally unrelated videos popping out, but I didn't give up, kept trying different search combinations until I finally stumbled upon a video that looked like it was what I'd been looking for. Now, don't ask me how I knew that a video with a picture of a group of girls dressed in pink outfits as the thumbnail was what I had been looking for, but I clicked on it and indeed, it was! It was NOT the original Music Video on an official channel, I think it was a fandub or something like that but thanks to that video I finally found out what was the name of that mysterious but oddly charming song, and after confirming the name of the song I kept searching for videos until I found the Original MV.

You don't know how happy I was to finally get to hear the full song, that fun-sounding song that I had loved for such a long time. The MV was cute too and I quickly took a liking to the cheerful and cute girls singing such a charming song, it was like a new world had opened before my eyes... And the rest is history :lol: .

The song? It was Berryz Kobo's Gag 100kaibun Aishite Kudasai ♥ ^_^

Funnily enough, there were other two songs I loved that I had downloaded from the same site roughly at the same time that I first discovered Gag 100kaibun, and one of those files DID have the name of the song (Rottara Rottara) while the other didn't (I would later find out it was called Gachinko de Ikou!).

I knew Rottara Rottara was a song used in Shugo Chara, so it would have been easy to find H!P (and later Berryz and my beloved Gag 100kaibun) through Buono! if I had cared to do some research, but I was content with just listening to the songs, I didn't feel the need of knowing the name of the band who sang them (remember the reason I tried to find the band who sang that mysterious Pretty Cure song in the first place was because the mp3 file I downloaded wasn't complete) so I had to find Berryz and H!P the hard way :lol:

When I finally discovered Berryz, I spent a looong time only liking them (I kind of knew that there were other groups under the same company/agency but at first all my attention was on Berryz since they were the very first H!P group I discovered), but one fateful day, I remembered this amazing song that I still didn't knew the name of (and that I hadn't listened to in ages), and history repeated itself when I decided to use the same method I did in my search for Gag 100kaibun (only this time typing some of the lyrics I could distinguish on Google).

This time it was easier, I quickly found the MV for Gachinko de Ikou! and, curious, I cliked on it... AND HOLY MOLEY! I obviously immediately recognized Momo & Miya! I then gradually started listening to all of Buono's songs when one day... Surprise, surprise! I found out they also sung Rottara Rottara! I mean, yeah, I was completely aware that Rottara Rottara was used in Shugo Chara! but since that was an anime I was and still am NOT really a fan of, I had never listened to the openings/endings of the series other than Rottara Rottara, which I found by chance, that's why I obviously wasn't aware that "that other song" was also from the series.

I was reaaaally surprised when I realized I had been exposed to H!P a lot of times in the past without even knowing it... In fact, the same year I first heard Gag 100kaibun Aishite Kudasai / Rottara Rottara / Gachinkou de Ikou! I also discovered a Morning Musume song (Say Yeah! ~Motto Miracle Night~) which I really liked and saved in my music folder too, but I just never bothered to search more stuff from Morning Musume (and yes, this time I knew the name of the group that sung Motto Miracle Night).

Heh, looking back, it's hilarious and amazing at the same time~ Such an Odyssey I went through to find H!P :lol:

Been trying to binge read Shoujo/Josei manga these days to keep boredom away, but the drama in the ones I've picked has left me even more depressed lol. Any recommendations on short/not too long manga from other genres?

- "Ibitsu" by (Ryou Haruto; 2 volumes, 15 chapters) also about a man being stalked, but with more supernatural aspects and I think some mild gore (it's been a while).
- "Fuan no Tane" (Nakayama Masaaki; 3 volumes, 72 chapters) is a collection of short stories about urban legends, ghosts, supersitions, etc. Mostly just unsettling/creepy, maybe a little body horror in a few of them but I don't remember it being especially bad.

^ All three of them sound pretty interesting! Definitely gonna check them out, it's been a while since I've tried to get into a horror story (manga or otherwise). Thanks a lot for the suggestions! :D

No problem! I'm sorry I don't have other genres to recommend, everything else (that I liked enough to suggest anyway) ended up being a lot longer than I remembered (or had a tragic ending lol)

Arhg, one can never be happy with the Kenshuusei, even though a lot of my faves debuted, it's still so damn sad when others have to leave... The very definition of bittersweet ending.

^No doubt but at least I cannot understand them lol. I guess I just feel embarrassed more because they're in my mother language too, it's like I become embarrassed thinking those are my fellow latin people, heh. Still, I'm glad for them getting fans all around the world since most comments are normal lol.

Sorry for the rant but just how petty can some people be? I (and another friend) was the person they wronged and not even I think about it anymore *eyeroll*

Haha, may I ask what is the name of the manga? xD Actually, this problem started BECAUSE I kinda confronted them about the original issue, one of them apologized but his other friends got mad at me (yes, they got mad because I didn't keep quiet and for not letting them stomp over me) plus with my friend for being a good friend and supporting me... So yeah, it wouldn't be worth it. Right now we're just debating if we're going to the ceremony or not, we don't care about the...

...their petty grudge but the ceremony is on Tuesday and we have to work that day (yeah, weird timing from the authorities' part) so we're not sure if it's worth to go through all of the trouble only to see the people who hate us. We'll probably have to drop by for our diplomas some other time. Their attitude is still unbelievable though.
