Isn't the point that they are supposed to look like regular girls? The girl next door type. The type of girl you'd see walking down the street or riding the train.

Unlike NGZ46 that appears to recruit directly from modeling agencies.(not confirmed but that's what I thought the first time I saw them)

This is kinda ironic when you consider Nogi was initially meant to be the regular, girl next door type of idols, and you can really see that with their 1st and 2nd gens during debut... Most of the girls were pretty regular (but also prettier than AKB members). The problem they had is that because all of those 1st-2nd gen members blossoming into beautiful idols, their newer gens had to look just as good as them to catch fans attention and be pushed quickly. Fast forward to their 5th gen and they're all look like beautiful models shooting for a elegant themed concept in japan vogue lol

Morning musume newbies have the luxury of being newbies in the traditional idol way. They can look average and be given the time to grow into their beauty and for most of these girls that takes years because management like to push their 2-4 senior members and leave the rest in the shadows a little. I suspect we will get more morning musume members with the new H!P audition, and like Rairi with this new gen, these girls will definitely look super pretty and idol like by the time the next gen arrive.

I still feel weird. Call me crazy or awful, but I don't think any of the two members is pretty... or pretty enough for MM.

They said the same thing about Oda Sakura and she released her 5th photobook in March.

Give them time and wait for their idol makeover.

^ Oda is truly the blueprint for average girl to beautiful idol pipeline. Her debut to now is like night and day lmao

^ I actually think it will end with the apology statements. If it was one member, or even two, and Saori was one of the two, then I could see this being bad for her specifically because of her past scandal. However this event included 1/3 of tsubaki. They won't so readily reprimand the members in any sort of harsh way because they'll be sure to anger the fans of those members who get into trouble. That fraction is big enough that they won't risk demoting the girls in any way, but the apology acknowledges the event and their wish to "do better" and "regain the trust" of the fans, so I think it's enough.

they're probably the girls who failed the 17ki auditions, which means the announcement for that will be coming soon too, exciting stuff!

I actually think MM and UFP are very lucky that the girls stuck it out during the pandemic and didn't graduate during those three years. I still believe it's the only reason a lot of the members haven't left yet. Maachan's grad most definitely made the members think "ok it's okay to leave now", a pattern i've seen with a lot of idol groups over the last year or so, so it's not surprising to me that they're holding another audition. Only having Rio join told me two things, that they didn't find the kind of girls they were looking for in the last audition (except Rio of course) but also that what they're looking for isn't just an average idol but someone who can replace legendary members like 9-11ki, and that's a big ask.

I'm glad they're being smart and holding another audition now, I'd be surprised if any of 9-13ki are still around in the next 4 years. It's much better to allow fans to get to know the newbies while the group still has those older members, it makes the transition smoother. Call me chaotic (lol) but I really want a 4 member generation! We haven't had one in over 10 years now, it would be so fun to see that again. A 4nin gen followed by a 2nin gen a couple years from then would be perfect!
