The HDD thread

12 March 2005 - 04:03 AM

I noticed when I got back home in Asia after finishing my studied in the states that everyone around here (at least my friends) uses 2.5" (Laptop) HD as a mean to exchange data with each other.

They literally carry them 2.5"s in their pockets (I'm referring to HD, not something else <_<)
The casing and USB connectivity makes it really convenient too

So anyways, considering the price, its actually a lot cheaper than carrying USB flash drives ne?
Consider the fact that that the cheapest 512mb USB flash drive (generic brand) around here costs around HKD300 (almost USD 40)
I bought a Hitachi 2.5" 80GB 5400rpm 8mb cache yesterday complete with the USB casing for HKD 1115 (roughly USD 140), complete with 3 years manufacturer's warranty.

same ease of connectivity (both being USB, just plug-and-pray it works) XP
the HD is a bit over 3x the price of the mentioned USB drive, but carries over 150 times the capacity.
(well, the size factor? its comparable to my wallet... only much less thinner, since my wallet carries too much bills... ~.~)

I wonder why this method of data storage isnt widely (or perhaps not even used) in America? hmmmm
