They've never been subbed as far as I know. Maybe in other languages, but I'm pretty sure they've not been subbed in English.

 

 

 

I'm sorry, I find the last part kind of funny because I didn't really buy the whole "updated" concept on the new Best of. I find it ironic they want to distance themselves from Golden Era, but then continue to constantly perform the groups' most famous songs from then only with more wubwub. Case in point? Their Naruchika setlist from today. Their encore MC is about the new name, followed immediately by their closing song of Love Machine. How is that distancing from a bygone time and members...oh wait, it has a different arrangement so that fixes it...   I'm not saying they shouldn't perform these older songs, but it's starting to feel like PE's TV appearances where they were always bringing up LM or RR21. Hopefully the next tour will have less Golden Era Best Hits Wubwub'd and more album songs / b-sides / PE-onward songs.

 

The only argument in favor of the name change that I've found I could agree with came from Ayaachan over in the 55th single thread, that "when they see Morning Musume'20 they will know Morning Musume is still around and that they are mentioning the current line-up and not the past one..."

 

But if you're a new fan just getting into MM, wouldn't it make you wonder why MM'16 were performing MM'99/00/01/02 songs all the time?

 

I don't know where I'm going with this since I'm under the weather and head is stuffy. I'll stop now.

 

We can agree to disagree. Theories only make sense when it conforms to what we want to see or what we want to believe. It can be, as I have said, an effort to "stand on their own feet". Or it may be nothing more than an added number to make things interesting, whatever that means. 

But I don't mind that you find my idea funny, because it isn't true and I can laugh at it when we finally found out what the real reason is.

I really don't understand the explanation. People have trouble remembering when certain songs came out....so we're going to give them even more to remember by changing the name every year... WHY? I don't oppose a name change but this one is just silly.

Think of it as brand re-positioning. It's still basically the "same" new group but with a little more emphasis on the "new". They've been desperately trying to market themselves as something different from the old ones and this is probably one of their wildest ideas on how to reinforce the idea that the Golden (and by extent the Platinum) girls are gone. Not their brightest, but at least an interesting idea.

Besides, it may mean nothing in the long run but they've managed to generate some buzz (which was probably the point). Anything to get people to talk about MM.

And it's not like it's going to be a new group with brand new songs. Just a cosmetic change, everybody.
