In Topic: H!O Tracker closure let's talk about alternatives.

I don't know if it's been mentioned previously or not, but...one thing that concerns me as a downloader (I don't upload torrents to trackers) is the ratio - I have no problems leaving stuff going to help seed to build a ratio, but keeping a ratio might be difficult for people like me, who have a monthly bandwidth cap and whose ISP may either cut them off or bill them up the backside for additional data per month. This is one reason I am very wary of JPS and ratio requirements.  This is especially true if we are just starting out at a place which has requirements. if I can't download anything to build a ratio with then I'm out of luck.

Sort torrents by filesize.

Download the 500 smallest torrents.

Seed them indefinitely for bonus points.

Spend bonus points on upload credit.

The last few posts in this thread are a pretty good illustration of why JPS can't and won't be the long term solution.

Yeah, it really does show why JPS isn't a good idea for this community. The tracker has only been down for like a day now, and there are already dozens of people in this thread who can't get in there. And they probably never will.

Plus a lot of us who have invites don't dare give them out for fear of being banned by JPS's crazy moderators if the people we invite make some minor mistake. For example, from the invite page: "If a user you invited shows up on the forum asking questions that he should already know the answer to, you MIGHT get into trouble."

Is farming small torrents for bonus points actually condoned on JPS? I remember the staff were against it a few years back but it seems no rules were ever made to prevent it.

As far as I know there's never been any rule against it. People have been doing it forever. If you sort by size and look at the smallest torrents you'll find they all have hundreds of seeders. I don't think it's because tons of people just love 10 kilobyte midi files.

Yeah, it looks like they removed the link. You can still get there and download torrents though if you just go to http://www.hello-onl...dex.php?app=xbt
