Well, Koda Kumi has had her own scandals..............a little foot-in-mouth disease about older women's wombs or something.......

And perhaps some people still think that Aibon is not worthy of being a role model, that will take some time.

One commenter talks about how Pinch Runner and Angle Hearts weren't very good and Aibon was the best actress from H!P, citing this and Brementown Musicians.

I've gotten to the point where I've seen almost everything on the internets that has Aibon in it.............and am pretty much combing thru Hello! Mornings. I recently watched the Haromoni Academy with Rika-sensei and Thane Camus where the MM girls have to tell stories in English........there is NO Aibon/Nono in it but that episode is hilarious from beginning to end. Then I watched the 12/25/05 Christmas Show that didn't have much Aibon/Nono (they appear as monks with Maki on Haromoni Station) but during a quiz in which they were asked what would be their ideal Christmas, Nono said being kissed in front of Cinderella Castle at Disneyland and Aibon said being kissed in front of a Christmas tree...........and they both answered independent of what each other's answer was! Sometimes they DID think exactly alike!

That last comment reminded me of the 'Mechaike Okajo Kimatsu Test'.
Their answers were so similar and they were even equally at the bottom of the test.
Apart from the fact that Kago was slightly better at english than Tsuji. .

I think Kago has been very entertaining, and needed to talk about the things she has since her comeback. But I imagine seeing a girl get so much media attention for smoking, liking older men and cutting her wrist could be aggravating if you are not a fan - especially for older women. Also,seeing Misono is on the list, the survey was probably taken after Kago's London Hearts appearance which may have boosted her ranking a little.
Japan also seems to like their Talents to stay in character. I'm sure they would have liked Kago to play a caricature of cute happy 13 year Aibon forever, and the reaction against her smoking and drinking is greater than a normal 20 year old as it is, perhaps, seen as a betrayal of her "Aibon" image.


Probably as a warning to her fans, she finishes her book with the line ""How many years into the future I don't know, however I want to become an actor suited to smoking (roles)" and it's not the smoking comment that's important. But rather the intention not to be typecast, to take on roles that don't really fit into the "Aibon" image. That's not to say she doesn't still want to be Aibon, but that she wants to be seen as more than Aibon - if that makes any sense.

hazymon: Thanks for the pics.............I think you hit the nail on the head. She may have already come to terms with the fact that she's not going to be fully accepted and revered like in the past and has just decided to tread her own path. Maybe what little association she has with Shokotan has rubbed off on her as Shokotan seems not to be concerned with convention at all. I just hope she doesn't start putting Downey's butt in her mouth!

stillaibon: Aibon may not be the Kago-chan of olden days but she still is a very charismatic person who seems to have people all over the world interested in her. Combining the idea that she isn't trying to be conventional/conformist with the idea that she's still very young and hasn't fully grown into what she will become, she has an entire future ahead of her of possibilities to break ground where no Japanese entertainer has before including breaking into the American market. I think we should start a campaign to get her on next year's Japan Night tour........

I'd love to see more of that. It seems like I've seen almost all of the Utaban and Hey!x3 appearances, I suspect there are a lot of Countdown TV, Music Station, Music Fighter and Pop Jam shows that have never been uploaded. I know Zone was on CDTV all the time, I wonder if Morning Musume was on there a lot too.....

stillaibon, you're right that "maji de" means "really" just as "hontou ni" and "are" do too. They're just interjections like "huh" or "what?" Lately I've been noticing people saying "uso" a lot which literally means "you're lying" but is meant more as "are you kidding me?"

I think that's what Machan says when Tsuji said this expensive water was distilled from a tuna!

What I always find funny when people sub videos is how they include swear words. I mean, kids watch this stuff (I assume so, anyway). At the end of that video, Yuko apparently says 'That girl p*ssed me off!' I don't think she'd say that, but I could be wrong. I assumed it would be some something more like 'That girl annoyed me!', or 'That girl annoyed the hell out of me!'

I once saw I translation for Joshi Kashimashi Monogatari, where 'Kuso' was translated as 'sh*t!' I again, assumed it would be something more like 'damn'.
