If I had to reccommend stuff my list would be off the top of my head:
Saikano - Romance/drama
Love Hina - Comedy/romance/drama
Full Metal Panic - Mecha/Comedy/Drama
Scryed - Action
Full Metal Alchemist - Action (mainly) slight bit of drama
Kiddy Grade - Action, mmm it's just a feel good
Stellvia of the Universe - Action/Drama/Comedy, heavily leaned toward drama, those PMS episodes are annoying at times >_<
Kanon - Drama
Genshiken - Just cause it's cool and about otakus =P
Hikaru No Go - It's about GO what else do you need to know? Ahaha it prob. doesn't sound that great...but once you start it's like @_@ marathon time! whooooooo
Chrno Crusade - Action/Religion(doens't matter too much)/Romance
Hellsing - Action, Vampires...what else do I need to say...
Chobits - Comedic/Romance
wow list is getting long...but yeah that's a decent start *cough*
edit
ahaha had to add some more things =P
Onegai Teacher - Romance/drama/comedy, do NOT I repeat do NOT get the second season, Onegai Twins, unless you're really into incest/ecchi/comedy
On that note I hear Koi Kaze has a VERY strong storyline even though it focuses around incest... >_>

This was the first time that I had forgotten that I was watching an anime.I second this nomination..Surprised noone mentioned this title yet:
- Grave of the Fireflies
Never have I experienced something like this ever again.
This is truelly the saddest anime that I have seen so far.
Based on a true story as well, except the brother didn't die in the end like the anime. I watched a documentary some time ago about this, the guy was still sad over the loss of his sister, he mentioned eating some of the food to keep his strength up before taking them back to his sister, he feels guilty about this and can't seem to forgive himself.

This anime will fool you into thinking it's just another anime, but it is so so tragic. The extras on the DVDs interviewed some of the (english sub) voice actors, and you find out that even they had to do retakes because they would start blubbing half way though a take.
Recommended.

Grave of the Fireflies is the ultimate sadness.
Remember, when it was first shown in theaters, it was part of a double-bill with My Neighbor Totoro. First you are taken to the ultimate dispair and heartache, and returned to the peak of innocence and purity of happiness.
Yossie, you sultry minx, stop falling in love with me; you're just going to embarrass yourself.

I also very much love YJ!!!! It's so funny!New favourite: Yakitate!! Japan!
(yakitate = freshly baked, pan = bread)
It's about a guy who bakes bread ^o^
I haven't seen the 11-12 episodes yet, even though they were fansubbed already. Have you read the manga? I haven't, as I am too lazy. Hehe.
Azuma is a very cute character. I love his hair band thing ^^

I haven't read the manga either =) But I'm happy just watching the anime. It's very well made imo. I think ken-sensei is coolest character tho ^o^ he reminds me of the afro-guy in Puni Puni Poemi
I noticed that we have some PGSM fans here and I would like to know if anyone else noticed the resemblance between the background music on the two shows? Are they both tv-tokyo or something? I mean they're very similar imo (which is all good )

11-12 episode (hour long special) is very cool! You learn more about Tsukino in it ^^ I really liked it. Plus there are lots of funny parts as always!
Plus you get to see how everyone gets paired up in the finals, and who makes it and who doesn't. Very exciting episode! And appearance of a new character!! Okay, I don't want to spoil it if you haven't seen it yet, so I'll stop now.
