Well, to start off, GTO means Great Teacher Onizuka. It was kinda loyal to the anime and manga and the portrayal was good. The live action is highly recommended and still number 1 in jdrama.com website.
As for You're Under Arrest, I liked it but fight scense is too choreographed. Natsumi is very cute everytime she's drunk.
Sailormoon live action is good if you're really into sentai. If you're not, you can just enjoy the beautiful girls. Rei/Sailor Mars is very cute and my favorite.
MPD Psycho - just watched it as raws and no subtitle. Our manga group, Radical Dreamers, is planning to subtitle it, i'll just notify you guys if we finished (I'm the one who will put the subtitles anyway, some other will translate the series for us)
I guess that's it.
I've haven't watched any JDramas that are purely JDramas and not based on an anime or manga. What do you recommend.

I'm sure you've heard about the Mini-Moni drama. I like it but I think that is only because I am a Mini-moni fan. My friends hated it.
Maki Goto is in "Yanpapa" but she really is the only saving grace in this Crap-tastic show. You will want to beat the lead charactor senseless.
"Star no Koi" has a very predictable but very fun story. Kusanagi from SMAP stars in it and does a good job (Much better than his role in Sensei Shiranai(sp?) ).
"Good Luck" was a very fun show and the best I have watched recently.
I LOVE "Women of the Onsen" (Onsen ne Ikkou), but it is really a soap opera with bad acting and a silly story. But I am totally hooked. Still havn't finished it as there are 150+ episodes.
Watch "Beautiful Life" but only if you are prepared to cry your eyes out.
Those are some recommendations from me.

I've seen a part of MPD Psycho. I think it was with Chiaki Kuriyama in the church scene... rather interesting to say the least. I'll be looking forward to the episodes you and your group are subbing.I have watched JDramas that are based on anime and manga and they are: GTO, You're Under Arrest, Sailormoon, MPD Psycho.

I haven't seen many Jdramas. The only ones I've seen and liked are Beginner and Divorce Lawyer. They're pretty boring action-wise because both are about lawyers.
Beginner is about law-school students who work together and try to pass the Bar. I think that's what is it about since there were no subs. They try to solve cases given to them by their teacher and there's romance and stuff.
Divorce Lawyer is exactly what the title says. Just follows a divorce lawyer through cases and stuff.
Mimura is in both of them and I think she might have been in the 6th season of Kinpachi Sensei but I can't really tell if it's her. She's so cute, but I wish I knew her last name.

only watched the first episode from You're Under Arrest, but I just cant stop myself from laughing since I paused during the opening and saw that the newspaper on the back is a brazilian newspaper, and if I remember right its mainly the sports sectionAs for You're Under Arrest, I liked it but fight scense is too choreographed. Natsumi is very cute everytime she's drunk.

PGSM, was fun, I wish they could continue it, I want the other sailors
I dont watch many dramas, it has to be based on an anime or have some jpop singer in the cast for me to watch

"Summer Snow" will leave you crying like a child!
(Starring Dohmoto Tsuyoshi from Kinki Kids)
"Beautiful life" will leave you crying like a little child!
(Starring Kimura Takuya from SMAP)
"Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi"(one million stars falling from the sky) will leave
you crying like a smaller child... in pain...
(Also starring Kimura Takuya with Shibasaki Kou)
You should all watch them!
But then to lighten up everything why not watch:

"Long Vacation" another Kimura Jdorama, this time about a pianoplayer, GREAT!
"Pride" Kimura-san again this time in the first Hockey jdorama, Very GOOD!
"You?Lre Under Arrest" a wonderful jdrama based on Yosuke Fujishima?Ls manga.
"GTO" Just perfect for a slow night at home with a bowl of popcorn... Manga based!
"Good Luck" this time with Kiumra as a co-pilot, but Shibasaki Kou is Mmm!!!
"Beach Boys" just a great jdrama with Sorimachi Takashi from GTO.
"Gokusen" pretty simular to GTO, but this time with a female yakuza teacher! Based on a manga...
"Tokyo Wankei" a jdrama about 3th gen. Koreans in Japan, lovestory, NICE!!!
