My PC is already old but I recently bought a laptop so I'll post my laptop's specs. At school (I'm studying IT in university) my laptop is undefeated in specs.

I got a tweaked version of the Asus G2S laptop

Processor: Intel Centrino Duo t7500 (Santa Rosa) 2 cores at 2.20GHz
Memory: 4GB (my page file is turned off <3)
HDD: 120GB 7200rpm sata hdd (maybe the amount of gb is less than the original, but the speed is a lot faster), Maxtor 500gb (external)
Videocard: Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT
LAN/WLAN: Intel 10/100/1000 speed and intel 802.11 a/b/g/n
Monitor: 17" tft widescreen (16:10) @ 1440x900
OS: dual boot Windows Vista 32 bit OEM(so I can only use 3/4 of my memory) and Linux Ubuntu 7.10 64bit but Nvidia needs to make good video drivers for that.

There's also blutooth, hdmi, esata, tv capture and stuff like that

oh and my desktop which I gotta clean soon is like this:
MB: Asus K8V SE Deluxe (I Think)
Processor: Amd Athlon 64 3000+
Memory: 1 GB
HDD: 160GB Sata and 300GB Sata both internal
Videocard: Ati Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB
LAN: onboard gigabit
Monitor: Dual monitor, 1x 17" CRT, 1x 21" CRT
OS: Windows :) Pro 32 bit OEM (because I need a friggin floppy to install 64 bit and there were no right 64bit drivers, stupid MS)

This comp was state of the art back in 2004 when I bought it :D Now it can't even run UT3 properly. A new PC is the 3rd priority on my to-spend-money-on list (1. study, 2. trip to japan, 3. computer, 4. ps3, 5. car)

Since I want a state of the art pc again with a big ass hdtv screen (which ofcourse I can buy later) and Japan is expensive, I'll have to wait a few more years when my laptop is not compatible for games anymore :D
By nono:)bbz, thanks!

my setup is getting a bit silly
Phillips media center PC,
- twin 3gig pentium 4 chips
- 250gig hard drive
- intel graphics (optimised for video playback)
connected to 37inch wide screen LCD TV running at a resolution of 1920x1080. (will play video at that size no problem)

- 512MB ram (yes i know its a bit small but its still under warranty so im not taking a can opener to it yet)
- onboard 5.1 sound card
optical connection to Cambridge Audio surround amp, and Tannoy surround speakers and sub woofer. (it shakes the whole house if i have the volume too high)

- external USB 300gig hard drive
- networked 320gig hard drive/print server
- laser printer and photo printer plugged into above

got an 8meg dsl feed into home (though only 512mb up load speed), main pc is connected by cable to hub as is my file/print server, laptop, Wii and pocket PC all connect via WiFi

laptop is about 3 years old and so it is crap, but it was crap when i bought it, it still does sterling service when running Karaoke though as it has TV out which i feed to a small LCD projector.
Pocket PC is an old HP hx4700, the only notable feature of which is I have hacked it so i have Japanese input/display on the damn thing.

We dont watch terrestial TV, all our entertainment comes from DVD's or downloaded media and the performance with the Big Ass TV is just stunning, being able to stream video into the house and display it at that size is just awesome.

Technology, i just love it

I build my own machines, so I get the components I want.

CPU: Intel Core2 Xtreme X6800
RAM: 2GB GEiL PC2-6400 800MHz 4-4-4-12
Mobo: ASUS P5W DH Deluxe
GPU: GeForce 7900 GTO 512MB
HDD: 320GB Western Digital + 1TB Western Digital Green Power
Sound: Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic (using Digital Coaxial)
OS: Vista Home Premium 64-bit (may install Ubuntu).

I made this machine to be as silent as possible, and you can bearly hear it when the machine is turned on. This requires being a bit selective with components... specifically getting a silent PSU, a case designed for silence like the Antec P180, a silent CPU cooler like the Scythe Infinity, and a GPU with a quiet as possible fan. Costs a bit more, but I can listen to my H!P without annoyance!

On a semi-related note, does anyone else get driven mad when people call their PC a 'CPU'? I mean really, the CPU is one part of the entire PC, it's like calling it 'RAM' or 'Graphics Card'.

Conceptually the opposite of my machine then! I hate nasty loud fans =P I think I have 3 in my machine - silent 120mm on the CPU, silent 120mm on the case rear, and a silent fan on the GPU!

yeah I do, but people really think cpu is an advanced word for saying computer. If I tell them what it really means people sometimes won't believe it because they heard it from a friend :noo: It's like a virus!!! ^^;

And since a couple of months I've really started to take a liking in ubuntu, especially because ubuntu doesn't eat 50% of my RAM like vista. Also it's free and when you got the hang of it and have worked with it for a while there's a lot of people wanting you because linux is extremely wanted now. Especially for companies who work with webservers. Linux is also better in the way that the core is build, and the future linux core will be even nicer, much more complicated but a lot more stable than the windows core.
If only Nvidia would update their drivers!

I LOVE the noise the fans from a pc make, I love the noise of a server's fans even more. When a server boots it sounds like it'll fly in the air and after that they go a little more quiet :)

Acer is not that bad, I've worked with Acer laptops a lot of times, and they have great prices for the specs in the laptops. The only thing acer laptops regularry suffer from is case problems (like screws that are too long or cracks or malfunctioning hinge)

Oh by the way if anyone wants ubuntu, you can get free cds here: https://shipit.ubuntu.com/myrequest
These cds come with cool ubuntu stickers <3

And last but not least, Redoran, if you go for ^^;... you'll only be able to use 3gb of memory, even in 64bit!

In all honesty, the only reason I've not gone Ubuntu is because CoreAVC (fastest H.264 decoder) is not avaliable for Linux right now. I watch a lot of 1080 content, so this is really important for me.

But otherwise, I'd love to drop Windows, chock full of DRM, driver signing, ever pandering to executives love of DRM mechanisms like AACS and go with something community supported... just one of two little things which mean I cannot. I could dual boot, but this is a 24-7 machine so that's a pain!

I LOVE the noise the fans from a pc make, I love the noise of a server's fans even more. When a server boots it sounds like it'll fly in the air and after that they go a little more quiet ^^;

I know what you mean, I used to love it when I used my machine for gaming, made the machine sound real powerful! However, these days my machine is used primarily for media, so any kind of noise is unwanted! Nothing more annoying that trying to watch a .ts perf, and your machine is drowing out the sound! I'm pleased I paid the extra and went the silent route without sacrificing power (not top of the range these days, but was when I built it, and plays H.264 1080i/p HD media perfectly, which was why I built it)!
