Kumai-chan graduated from the weekly TBS program King's Brunch today. It was really not unexpected. A total of 10 reporters (also including Yamada Nana) have graduated from the show in March as part of a "program reorganization" with new cast members.

Yurina joined the show in October 2015, so she was on it for a long time. I'm glad she took a chance on the audition for the show... and won it.    Getting to see her live on a popular TV program almost every week seemed like great news if you were a fan, especially coming so soon after Berryz. And at the same time she still followed her dreams in modeling/fashion show work. ( Of course during these years she has also appeared on other TV, including a year as a member of TV Tokyo's Overnight. Her time as a reporter on KanafulTV still continues; her most recent appearance was last week 3/21.) 

Kumaicho has said in interviews it makes her happy that it seems she has gained new fans because of Brunch, especially women, and some tell her they had not heard of Berryz Kobo. 

King's Brunch is a four and a half hour show (no, I never watched all of it, lol ! ), and over the past 5 and a half years Yurina did reports on food, travel, trends, music, shopping, health and exercise, manga, sports, buying a home, etc., and interviews with celebrities and authors. Of course being Kumai-chan, there were often a lot of funny moments, and things like being "attacked" by a hawk in the studio on live TV! Working with other reporters, she especially had a great chemistry with Kobayashi Reina when they traveled together to locations around Japan. And I always enjoyed her foreign trips to places like Hawaii, Guam, New Zealand, and South Korea, as well as to Hollywood to interview Clint Eastwood and Joaquin Phoenix.

Oh wow, I never realized she was doing that kind of work too!
Good thing about this though as she has more time to do other projects now too, so it'll be interesting to see what she does now!

Yurina Kumai Casual Dinner Show- 2021 Spring ~Flower Bouquet~

 

Kumai-chan had two dinner shows at La Donna on April 4, and two more on April 11.

 

The ones on April 4 were on Risako's birthday. Yurina talked about her during the MC that day, and about the birthday message she sent to her. It seems the last time they have met (to date) was in 2019 when Kumaicho visited Rii's home with Maasa and Maro.

Yurina sang Real Love during the shows on 4/4 as a tribute to Risako.

She also talked about another song on her setlist. She did a duet with Rii of Tanjun Sugi na no Watashi... at the Berryz Kobo dinner show at the Cotton Club in January 2015. She said Risako had asked for it to be part of that show. 

(Rii also sang the song at her 2014 birthday event, so she must have really liked it.)

Yurina doing her reporting work this week on KanafulTV. She went on location to Miura Peninsula.

When the network puts this show on it's YT channel, it is always missing all of the music that was heard throughout the actual TV broadcast version, making it kinda strange to watch at times.

The setlist is not being shared by fans until after the 8/15 show. There were 12 songs.

 

Among the free goods that were given to people who attended was a special t-shirt with a list of the names of all of Yurina's dinner shows.

Yurina said that after the Berryz hiatus she could not sing Anshinkan because of the emotions of that time, and the song was so special to her, but after a year or two she started doing it again. It is now part of most of her performances and the fans expect it.

She was surprised by the number of dinner shows listed on her new t-shirt, and it reminded her of how much she loves to sing Berryz songs.

Kumaicho said she was happy to appear on a fashion show runway again after a long absence, in a haute couture fashion show by designer Yuima Nakazato in July. She was scheduled to appear in shows by other designers, but they were cancelled due to covid.

Yurina also talked about her grandfather, whose birthday is a few days after hers. They are very close and talk a lot. He is a shakuhachi traditional bamboo flute music teacher. She says she likes to listen to him play, and the sound of it makes her think of the summer.

Yurina talked about meeting Captain's husband for the first time. How much she enjoyed going to university, and how it changed her. 

Update on her legendary hatred of tomatoes: Ketchup and tomato sauce are now okay!

After doing the recent boat race show with Nacky, she looked into taking a ride on one of the boats or a license, but she's too tall- the limit is 175cm.

Harunan talked about starring in The Record of Ragnarok (based on the popular manga and anime) on the stage in November.

It was livestreamed on Ashida's Instagram. An official video will be released in early November.

 

On her recent "cafe ENJOY!" online FC event, Yurina talked about the setlist for the 9/12 Berryz events. There were songs that were considered that did not make the final list, and she wants to sing them at her dinner shows in December.

She also said she had trouble remembering parts of the original dances for some of the songs during the 9/12 rehearsals, and was kidded for it by Miya and Maasa (we might get to see some of this on the DVD extras, which includes rehearsals ).

Kumaichan performed two shows today December 19 at La Donna.

During the MC Yurina announced she will have special dinner shows with Maasa in February. 

Fans report Kumaicho was very funny during the MCs, and that her surprise performance of Koibito ga Santa Claus/My Lover is Santa Claus was one of the highlights of the setlist.
