Something I've come to notice (once again don't hit me I'm new) is that, in my opinion, there are a few details which should be added within the file summary of the downloadable files.

Ususllay with most of my downloading 700meg = 1hr high quality episode, 350meg = 1hr reasonable quality episode. (1hr episode 45mins episode)

But as file sizes here are quite varied due to quality you never know how long the file you're donwlaoding actually goes for. I understand that most things go for 1hr (with the TV shows n stuff) but I think it would be a nice if there was a little info on how long the file actually goes for. Or if there's more than 1 file, how long each file goes for seperately.

4.5gig (or more) for a DVD isn't too hard to figure out but play time is still time to know.

I just don't like downloading 1gig files which only last for 10mins... (not that I've actually seen any as of yet) Thoughts/Sudgestions?

Cheers!
Zeal

Well... From this I don't really know if it'll help.. But the description is up to the Uploader, they can choose to have one or not and what to include in it...

Lengthwise, from the title you should get a clue as to how long it is...

Sizewise: Generally you can tell also.. if it is something you think is short and is HUGE that could mean many things...
1. HDTV Rip (Which will cause the size to be extremely big)
2. Encoder didn't adjust the size restriction which could lead to big files for short files.

Also note that Length and size sometimes don't 'match up to common sense' due to the Encoder/Rippers experience as it is possible to get a 1 hr + movie to lets say... 500mg and have the same movie be encoded to be over a gb with same quality.. so have to factor in the experience of the encoder/ripper...

So... It is sort of a you should get a general picture as to how long something is (From the Title) OR sometimes people use ImageGrabber or something similar to post screencaps and that shows the Duration of the file as well.

EDIT: My mistake, this is in the wrong section, should be in Tracker Talk

I don't see where this should preclude the forced inclusion of this data for audio and video content though. Seeing as how these do in fact vary widely, it would be nice to have a propper and full set of data to work with here.

Actually I had been considering a few suggestions for interface enhancements, perhaps now would be a good time to formulate them and bring them forward to the development/admin group.

By all means you can make suggestions to the Staff I am simply saying what my thoughts are. I mean as a member of Aokunai when I release things I do include such details in the description, but generally I have screenshots that show the duration of the file.

And I don't encode via h.264 so no need to add in a description like Sukebei does about what to do to view the video.

Not nesicarily, if certain fileds are made compalsury when creating the torrent in the first place it's not up to the upload, then again you can always lie by typing in 0

Lengthwise, from the title you should get a clue as to how long it is...

Once again I'm new here... I don't want japanese TV, guessing it's always good enough. I downloaded something which I thought was only going to be like 5mins long, turned out to be a 30min clip of ALL the crow/sparrow MM episodes (which ya know i'm not complaining)

EDIT: My mistake, this is in the wrong section, should be in Tracker Talk

It's not really about the tracker itself tho... but i can see your point (to a degree)

Actually I had been considering a few suggestions for interface enhancements, perhaps now would be a good time to formulate them and bring them forward to the development/admin group.

BRING ON A SUGGESTIONS SECTION! *LOL*

Haha, don't tempt me. When I was working for Apple they would average perhaps one to two hundred bugs or feature enhancements/suggestions a week from me. I worked in their 'retail' division and so had no job entailing I do any such reporting... but they left me the option. It's a dangerous thing to do. :GGRR:

My political representatives have run into the same scenario.

Hehe okay got me there about if the Server required users to do that.. but it would be a little too much information to add in in a sense of it turning into a huge 'form' instead of having just the essentials which the thing has right now.

@The Gomaki Sparrow Diary... How did you think it was a 5min thing? The description states the duration lol, and it is a HPS release they always put the Duration.

It is the tracker as you get the files via tracker right? Unless there is a Direct DL of it. And the tracker does relate to HPS but your question is geared toward the tracker due to you wanting people to add in the Duration of a clip/show/etc which only shows up through the tracker =)

Shush you! HAHAHA...

Coz i was lookin' in the wrong spot... but it kinda looked like a 5min show... like Duration in bold is nice... stands out... There are some where they have screen shots and they have the duration like (TV) Uta Doki! 114 070319 Behind the Scenes (Part1) I like that too...

I'm only human i miss things but i think it's still a valid statment that it should be on EVERYTHING.

Although I'm an uploader on other sites for stuff and it's required that you put in the full avicodec stuff... for example of the Gomaki Sparrow Diary:

File : 366 MB (366 MB), duration: 0:27:09, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 74 %
Video : 350 MB, 1805 Kbps, 29.970 fps, 640*480 (4:3), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported
Audio : 15.54 MB, 80 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported

I think i should just learn to guess with stuff on this site... just as long as I got my Yossie fix I should pipe down... *LOL*

Sometime's that's alot of work on the uploader when it's usually pretty easy to figure out by looking. A lot of the files here aren't actually encoded by the uploader, and that's alot of unnecessary work if they didn't. Not to mention I'm pretty sure Kuno has no idea what the files are encoded with (he could ask us, but that's again, unnecessary work for him, and he's already almost overworked) when we release a video, and he's the one that usually uploads them.

Feature and enhancement requests aren't just for new toys they're also for suggesting ways to make things better with the site. Little touches here and there can make H!O even more well rounded on the edges and prevent people asking the same questions all the time, or even just help people keep track of stuff. ^-^

For instance on the tracker if there were a file you have already downloaded but couldn't remeber if you had or not, then a small icon indicating you'd already grabbed the torrent file would be nice. You could even have the icon shown in different ways to indicate whether you completed the torrent properly or if it's still waiting to finish... or if you've downloaded it successfully AND seeded at least 100% filesize.

Not crazy ass feature bloatware, just little touches that would be really neat and add extra polish to the site in spots.

But before I go nuts with feature suggestions and crap I want it to be very clearly known that as someone who prides myself on being a usability expert (someone who helps make things easy and understandable for average people), I think H!O is fantastically simple to use. It make forumns and Bittorrent simple for your everyday user to interract with.

That being said, there's always room for improvement.

What's alot of work? The file video audio details?... that was a copy and paste total of 5 second job. Using a program called AVIcodec. It gives the details of the video file which can easily be copied and pasted. So you don't have to be the person who originaly encoded the file to find out what the details of the file actually are.

@zealVD: Ehhh that is some 'extra' work on the Uploader so nonetheless it is work... Just deal with it is all you got to do... I mean not everything can just be handed to you on a silver platter.. and if the Uploader chooses not to give such details they dont' need to and it isn't required...

PS: Just for the sake of arguement..

Lot of work for the Uploader to add in details.
(Depending on method){I shall go by Media Player Classic}
1. Play the Video
2. Right Click
3. Properties
4. Details
5. Copy
6. Go to Description for Torrent
7. Paste
(Wow 7 steps... that's a lot)

Compared to.
1. Not inputting anything in description

See the diff there? Some people prefer the simple 1 step... Opposed to the other.. and I am sure in relating to using AVICodec there are steps involve.d.. I am sorry that we aren't all 'not-lazy' (No offense to anyone just saying it this way), just appreciate the files are available to you as you aren't really well paying for them.. =X

:w00t:

My original statement was really just "can we have time stamps added to torrents"

The AVIcodec stuff was an example of what I've done on previous sites, and it has the time stamp in there. The extra info is just always good so that you know what you're getting.

No need to get all "technical". People are already either, copying and pasting, or writing out by hand the details for their torrents... I haven't come across a torrent yet which doesn't have any details. There are short description details and then the whole 3 page essay descriptions... In my opinion, the more details about the file you're downloading is always the best.

And theoreticaly yes I am paying for the files... I don't get free interwebs access... <3

This one is recent just to prove you wrong,

No Details

Not gonna go on about the theoretically paying for the files....

But yeah generally most Video Torrents do come with Screenshots which generally have the time stamps on them.
