That's not just a crucifix, that's a stylized rosary. I wonder if that was a planned image? Seems to be more jewlery than symbol to me, but who knows?
Matt, has Aya ever spoke about her religious beliefs before?

And mnuguyen is right, wearing crucifixes for decorative reasons only is popular even in mainly Christian countries.
