Inspired by the original Verzuz webseries created by Timbaland and Swizz Beats, and the fanmade Kpop Verzuz made by @sissythatpatch, Jpop Verzuz is a fun little competition where each week, two jpop artists compete head to head for "best discography"!

It's all friendly competition, and the results are decided by none other than the fans. It will air bi-weekly on Saturdays at 7:00 PM EST on Twitch, starting February 13th, 2021!

The first matchup is MORNING MUSUME v. AKB48.

"HOW TO PLAY":

HOW TO PLAY: JPOP VERZUZ
1.) Each team (consisting of 3-5 people depending on fandom size) will be given the task of compiling a 12 SONG PLAYLIST for the respective teams. This includes 10 songs, and 2 encore songs. Each team will have a "team representative", one person who introduces each of the songs from their setlist.

2.) All members will be chosen at random, and one member (decided by the team) will be chosen to represent the team on the stream.

3.) The songs chosen must be available on streaming services internationally, so unfortunately this bars unreleased songs or region blocked songs.

4.) After each song plays, there will be a total of 30 seconds allowed for the hosts and the teams to have a short discussion and introduce the next song.

5.) After the second performer's 6th song has played, there will be a 3 minute half time before the first performer's 7th song plays. The details of what will be done during this half time, will be released to teams privately and announced beforehand at the beginning of the episodes.

SCORING:

1.) Half Time Twitter Poll: Winner gets +4 points to score
2.) Final Google Form: Form will consist of 12 questions, asking viewers which song they believe won each round: The group with the most voted rounds, will win the poll.
3.) The final results, are decided between a combination of the google form, and the half time votes. The final winner will be announced Monday, before the next matchup is announced.

oh this is pretty cool! i'm not sure if i'll participate since i'm bad with streams (unless it's like concerts or something lol but even then i'm still bad, my attention span sucks) but this seems really fun and i'm looking forward to seeing the results and everything about it :] thank u for organizing this!!

This does seem interesting/fun, but the timing might be too early for me to watch (definitely too early to apply for a team spot or anything). Are the live streams usually archived for these kinds of things?

Since it might get copyrighted/DMCA-ed, I'm not sure if we'll be able to save the streams, but we have three other episodes for the first season that will air biweekly, so if those will work better for your schedule, I'd love to see you tune in!

lmao wow musume crushed akb, rip. they definitely killed it though they had such a good setlist. looking forward to perfume vs egirls! idk much about either group except a few songs from each so it should be really fun

It's fun to think you could run that particular Verzuz several more times and still not run out of songs to make decent setlists with.

 

I'll be doing my best to tune in for the next one. Though between Perfume and E-girls, I think I've heard a total of 3 full songs.

The first JpopVerzuz Concert: JPOPVERZUZ SPRING CONCERT - THE RECONSTRUCTION OF JPOP -

If you are familiar with Kpop, then you probably know that since the pandemic, a lot of groups have been doing audience-less livestream concerts (sometimes called ON-TACTS), as a way to engage with their fans and show off new performances in a time where domestic and international fans alike have a harder time seeing their groups perform. This JpopVerzuz Concert is a similar concept, but with a setlist full of different performers. International Jpop fans already have a hard time seeing their favorite performers live if they don't come to their country or for financial reasons, so we decided to give back by giving you a concert where everyone can watch!
