It's interesting that there is no graduation message individually. I feel nothing about her graduation to be honest, was never a fan of hers, in fact she is my least favourite.

And her graduation didn't come as a surprise as the agency has already started planning her solo career, plus she has always been the face of the group. And I always get the feeling she isn't exactly a team player.

So it's a matter of time that she will graduate to become a solo artist. And now her solo activities have started rolling out, so I think she is very happy to do it solo.

Even if Karin is your least favorite, it's really sad to hear that there was no individual graduation message. I don't know how it went for Funakki's graduation, but not having messages from each member of J=J was the most unfortunate thing for Karin

I seriously doubt Karin cares. Quote me on this, but I am sure she is very happy to doing it solo.

When you think about it, individual message on the stage is really for us the audience rather than the graduating member themselves. I mean, they can communicate with each other with any media, whenever and wherever they want. Sure it's not as grand as delivering it on the stage, but I doubt Karin will lose any sleep for that. (for all we know it's probably Karin's wish that they don't do it in the show)

That said though, like I said before, it's a shame. Sure they can do it privately, but as a fan of the group I want to know what they feel about Karin, her graduation, their relationship etc. right there on the stage at that moment, also because it's a tradition and I was expecting it.

At the bold part, I can definitely see this is her doing. I always got the impression that she is not exactly close with the members in the group and most likely just maintain a work colleague relationship with them.

So perhaps, she would rather perform more songs than have to go through these "fakey-fakey" blessings/graduation messages to save everyone's trouble. LOL.

You said you’re not a big fan of Juice and it really shows if you’re not familiar enough with the members as individuals to know they are welcoming and decently close group and Karin isn’t as self-cantered as you have assumed her to be. I’m not a big Karin fan myself and she’s never been high on my list of H!P favs, so her graduation isn’t something I’m too broken over either (though I do like her and the group will feel a little strange without her for a bit... basically the same as how I felt about Riho leaving MM). I did think it was strange they didn’t follow the traditional format of having the members all say something and then her do a speech before her final solo and instead went for something completely different (I think it’s a first in H!P to do the speech in the middle of the song?), but I also know Karin wanted this to be a positive event and with less sadness than typical grad cons so it made sense to exclude the member speech’s. They are mostly tear-fests, which is the opposite of what she wanted. Now that I think about it — I don’t think Momo’s grad had member speeches either, for the same reason.

Plus, sometimes these things just end up awkward when you KNOW these girls either don’t get along or don’t know each other well. Koharu and Sayu have been pretty direct about not liking each other, so I’m sure neither of them enjoyed having to have Sayu say a big speech thing during Koharu’s grad. Maachan barely knew Aichan for like a month at most and literally thought Suzuki Airi was Aichan when she first joined, so her bawling her eyes out while giving a message to Aichan at her grad was awkward to watch. All of the girls in the current Juice lineup have had a lot of time with Karin so the “don’t know her well enough” aspect probably isn’t an issue, but maybe Karin isn’t super close with the newer girls, or maybe its just a lot for them to come up with things to say that sound good for a speech (not every people is good with words, especially when it comes to complicated or deep feelings)) or maybe they don’t like being mushy on stage... there’s many reasons why this aspect of a traditional Hello! Project grad concert could have been left out of this one. (Maachan at Duu’s grad is another example of a member either not being good at expressing themselves or simply being uncomfortable doing so)

Yup, I don't follow the group closely. But during like H!P DVD where J=J are involved, Karin just gives me the vibes she is not close to the members. I am not saying the rest are not close with each other (minus Karin), but from what I have seen, Karin does appear like she distanced herself away from the members in general. I could be wrong but that is my impression from what I have seen. I am not saying it is true.

And also, don't get me wrong when I say that she maintains a working relationship with the members, it is perfectly fine, I don't expect every member in a group to be close-knitted etc. At the end of the day, it's still a job plus they are basically thrown together to be in a group. Different personalities between the girls would mean there is a chance one or two of them may not end up being good friends. It is not meant to be negative.

And when I say she is happy doing it solo, what I meant is, she has always come across to me that she works hard so she can debut and likely to put her personal goals first. And becoming a solo artist seems to me is likely to be her top goal and she has achieved it. Again, nothing wrong with that.

With regards to Momoko not getting individual message, I guess it has to do with Country Girls' dynamics being different. Momoko is playing a mentor to the rest of the members, which is outrightly known to be her role and why her inclusion in the group. I feel her relationship with the members in the group is different from the usual mentoring relationship when senior members oversee the junior members/newbies (which usually are "unofficial"). So I can understand why there is no individual graduation message for her due to that reason of her status being different.

To be honest today was the first in a long time that I've felt a difference between the original members and the newer members. Tomoko, Sayuki, Karin, Aari... they definitely felt like the originals. Don't get me wrong, I love Ruru, and the concert made me realise how good Manakan actually is. But the bond of the original 4 was something I could feel even without individual messages.

Once again Juice showed that they are the top performers of H!P. It was less emotional than Anju's concert, but the quality was so damn high.

^

^ Now you're reading too much lol. She's definitely the type who separate her workspace 'nakama' to her private life 'tomodachi'. But I seriously doubt she would forego the tradition *because* the members aren't her BFF. If she's really the one who made the decision (which we shouldn't forget is still a mere speculation at this moment), I found it make a lot more sense to think that it was done for the sake of keeping the show as far away from the image of 'sadness' that these graduation shows typically identify.

I mean, as predicted, Sayuki was so close to breaking down that she couldn't even sing some of her line in Tsuzuiteiku Story, Riai couldn't look up, and Ruru had puffy eyes from the start of the show, imagine what would happen if they actually have to speak individually directly to Karin on the stage ^^;

To be honest the whole member speech tradition is more so just for Morning Musume. Angerme has started to do them more since Dawa's grad but it's more just quick messages/comments rather than full blown speeches. None of the other groups are really required to do it so it's fine if J=J or Karin decided not to do it. As others said, sometimes it can be a little awkward to watch, but I'm sure she's close enough with all the members that this would not be the case here.

I'm late to the thread, but I watched this on stream with folks, and it was such a wonderful experience, it really made me so happy to have come back to idol fandom, and to see how our little baby Karin from 2013 had grown so much, and was now taking this big step forward into her solo career.

Legit tearing up just typing this.

I only read little of the chat during the stream because I wanted to watch the concert fullscreen on my phone (as I was on a train then), but the chat was hyped! XD It was a cute experience.

I KNEW both of her outfits looked strangely familiar but I couldn’t place it and now I know why LOL. Maybe Karin was inspired by it without realizing she was heavily inspired by it? Like a subconscious thing. Otherwise I can’t see why else they would be so similar unless she did it deliberately for some reason lol.

Karin and Yanamin were fairly kindred spirits even if they weren't super close in public for the time that both were in J=J. I could easily see Karin paying homage to Nanami while also preferring such stylings for herself as well.
