2018年1月17日（水）RELEASE!

通算12作目となる、ダブルAサイド ニュー・シングル！
M-1「ときめいたのにスルー」は、前作「さよなら、スタンダード」、前々作「歯をくいしばれっっ！」に続き、大森靖子が吉川友のために書き下ろした新曲！
M-2「DISTORTION」は、吉川友の釣り友達でもある「理姫」がヴォカールを務めるバンド:アカシックによる書き下ろしのロック・チューン！
初回限定盤Aの特典DVDには「ときめいたのにスルー」と「DISTORTION」の2曲のMusic Videoと、そのメイキング映像を収録!
初回限定盤Bにはボーナス・トラックとして、新曲（タイトル未定）を収録！




<吉川友　シングル発売コメント>

2018年1月17日に12枚目のシングルをリリースさせて頂きます！
1つ、また1つと大切な曲が増えていき嬉しい限りです。
そんな吉川友の応援を、いつもありがとうございます。

今回のシングルは、私の10枚目のシングル『歯をくいしばれっっ！／チャーミング勝負世代』のときにお世話になった最強タッグ、大森靖子さん、そしてアカシックさんに楽曲提供して頂きました。

まず、大森靖子さんに作って頂いた楽曲「ときめいたのにスルー」
大森さんの楽曲は、歌詞やタイトルが毎回独特！聴けば聴くほど癖になる、耳に残る、そんなスルメのような曲が大好きです。
今回はポップで、アニメのエンディングとかで流れてそうな、ものすご〜く可愛らしいメロディーに乗せて、恋愛に臆病になった大人女子を歌った一曲に出来上がりました。言葉を音にはめ込むのがとても難しいので、いかに『大森靖子の波』に乗れるかが勝負！頑張って必死に乗りこなして、自分のものにしていきたいと思います！


そしてアカシックさんに書いていただいた楽曲、「DISTORTION」

レコーディングでは、ひたすら「エモく歌って！」とオーダーがありました。奥脇さんに指導してもらいながら、「エモさの極み」を目指した１曲です！
実は、理姫さんに歌詞をかいてもらう前に、お互いの趣味、「釣り」を通じてお互いの事について語り合い、吉川友ってどんな子なのか？を知って頂いてから、歌詞を書いて頂いたんです！当日は、暴風雨の中の釣りでかなり過酷だったのですが・・・
できあがった歌詞をみてびっくり！DISTORTION＝ねじれ・歪み とは・・・？吉川のイメージってどんな感じなんだろう！？でもすごく素敵なオトナ系女子な１曲に仕上がっていたので、ドキドキワクワクしながら、気持ちいっぱい込めてエモく？唄わせて頂きました。
「オイオイ言わせるイメージで歌って」と言われながらレコーディングしたので、バンドで歌ったら盛り上がる事間違いなしの一曲の完成です！

この素敵な両A面シングルをひっさげて、今後、全国各地でリリースイベントを行うので、皆さんにお会いできるのを楽しみにしています！
11月17日には久しぶりの生バンドライブも控えているので是非遊びに来てくださいね！
新曲も披露しちゃいますよ〜〜！

I hope this single is better than the last one. I'm not very fond of the recording version of Sayonara, Standard. It feels like the song lost its groove if compared to the live version..

Excited for this, and for anything Kikka-related, though less so since she's become an Oomori product. Looking forward to the other two songs, at least.

Both PVs are really nice as are both songs. Both are really enjoyable and different from one another which I love in multiple A-side singles. I think the PV stories tell a bigger narrative. What a cool single.

For the MVs, watch Distortion first followed by Mesmerized. The video flows from one to the other in that order.

And then the video loops back to Distortion hahahaha

And the PVs are very nice! DISTORTION is such a great, emotional song. I love it! Hope this single is successful

Both songs are nice to listen to, but I like Mesmerized MV more because it has nicer shots of Kikka. I like the camera angles in this MV make Kikka look more pretty

Also, how many Japanese have rode on a Rolls Royce?

I love both songs almost equally, which is weird because when I watched Distortion preview MV in Upcoming I didn't really get the song. Now that I've watched both MVs (Tokimeita -> Distortion, in that order), I came to like Distortion slightly more than Tokimeita (although I love Tokimeita at my first listen). Really hope that this single will sell well for her. And the third song, I'm curious how it'll sound like

As a huge Oomori fan, I am glad to see their collaboration is going on and working nicely again. Now if only Sakurai Kenta's arragements not all sounded the same that would be flawless.

So I just now listened to both songs and have to admit I was a bit worried after "Distortion" because it didn't have that much of a draw for me at first listen... considering her last batch of singles which I was so on board with the direction she was heading musically, this track fell short.  However, "Tokimeita no ni Through" which sports the same xylophone-like (muted chime sound) as "Good Bye Standard" and "With Clenched Teeth" made me smile and I'm very happy with it.  We'll see how their "grow on you" power will be.  At least these tracks didn't go back to the club track sound.

Predictably, I like DISTORTION slightly better than Tokimeita, since it's the non-Oomori song, but even in that one, I can't get over how her voice sounds. Why is she singing so nasally and airily? Kikka's natural voice is so full-bodied and clear, and just because Seiko Oomori has no range or dynamism to her voice doesn't mean Kikka has to do the same to her own. (Okay, I'll stop with the Oomori digs now )

 

I've made it clear enough that I haven't at all liked this direction and the Oomori mannerisms Kikka's adopted. This is the 3rd single in a row now that I haven't cared for, so frankly, this might be the end of the road for me. I had high hopes around Amai Melody~Hana era, where Kikka seemed to be coming into her own and developing her own sound, but now it seems like she's been totally rewritten. It's really quite unfortunate.

I used to love Kikka's style and especially the sound of her voice, but I'm not liking her recent releases.

In the last few singles, to me, it sounds as she is changing the way she's singing.

It sounds forced to me, it's not how her voice is, and how she was singing before used to be so good!

She's one of my favorite idols, but with the recent direction she is going in, I'm really losing interest in her...

Interesting reviews above.  I guess since I discovered her with her recent singles that is why I like them more than her earlier stuff.  Granted, I do love a lot of her earlier material but I detest the over-processed autotune-like style of many of her early songs, and perhaps that's what you are used to and prefer which, ironically isn't her true voice.

To me "Good Bye Standard" and "With Clenched Teeth" have a mature sound, breaking out of the typical idol machine.  Plus the coffee commercial song is one of my favorites as well lol...  to each  his own, as they say.

 

PS - "Oomori mannerisms"?  What's that mean?

Yes, there are overprocessed songs in her discography, but even in those you can hear how she is singing differently.
I can't find the right words to explain the difference, but more nasally might be the closest  

And I get how ❤-u-den sees the Oomori style in these latest singles, it's like Kikka isn't just singing Oomori's songs, but she's also copying that style instead of creating/continuing her own

She's singing like a 15 year old idol who just debuted and it's weird.

I agree with this whole discussion about the recent Kikka's singing technique. She has nice, deep, whole voice... I don't understand why do they make her sing like a chipmunk. I'm not hating the genre that she's having now, I love them actually (wasn't a big fan of her Hana era), but it's not like she has to sing it like that, right? Sometimes it sounds really grating and she can't even hold the note properly because she's using only the throat muscles instead of her diaphragm. I'm guessing that it's also not a very sustainable technique if she wants a long lasting career as a singer.

Perhaps this "15 year old girl" and "chipmunk" style is forced upon her by her producers recognizing the success of younger idols, and how Kikka is beyond typical graduation age as it is.  Personally I think she's improved with age both visually and sonically but I'm not the production manager trying to boost sales.
