Chinese? Japanese? They're both the same, right?

I found the actresses were a good choice because they pulled of their characters very well. I've gotta say that I've watched it synchronized in German (and the synchronization was very well done!) and in English, but because I'm not an English native speaker I probably couldn't hear much of a difference in the accents. that's why I didn't care whether the actresses were Chinese or Japanese and could just enjoy the whole thing.
I love the scenery and the camera movements, as well as Ken Watanabe because he's awesome.
I read the book, too, and I think I've read it 5 times already. It is really touching and written in a clear but interesting way (I've read it in English). I've cried so much while reading it and I still cry every time I watch the movie, too. It's just awesome. Also I thought that, even though they left out a lot of the storyline for the movie, the movie is well-made and they couldn't have done it better as the whole storyline would have been too long to film anyway.
I've also read Mineko Iwasaki's book and I do recommend it to everyone who likes the movie or the book. I know that the story that Golden has created is quite off at times and that he has invented some things and changed others... but he wanted it to be a catchy modern book and not a historical one. that's why it's okay for me, because I know which parts of the story aren't true. it bothers me that many Western people have kind of the wrong impression of a Geisha now, though.
So I really recommend the book and the movie.

Oof I know that this topic is kinda not active, but I just wanted to spread my love for this movie. It was a beautiful yet sad experience. It's crazy how the beautifulness of geishas was mixed with tyranny. The child actor who plays the main role at the beggining of the movie (Suzuka Ogo) is so beautiful. This movie makes you feel real emotions. It's so crazy to witness what's happening in a geisha house. All the actors were so talented and beautiful. I'm so happy that I discovered this (thank you Netflix) and I re-watched it many times with my friends. I know that there's a novel (I have it actually) but I haven't had the chance to read it yet (it's in my to-do list). Anyway, this movie is a must see.
