That Rewind song was also sold in different editions, right? I found it a bit hard to see, but on Amazon.jp there seems to be blue one, a red one, a green one… so, disqualifying box sets is all well and good, but it seems like it’s too partial, picking on one particular kind of multi-buying, which ultimately could mean - picking on one studio?… so once again, a real botch job.
The ratio between Billboard and Oricon scores seems to vary immensely, but what I didn’t expect to see – is sometimes the Oricon figure is actually higher, as clearly happened here with both News, and with the Idolm@ster song…so what is it that, conversely, Oricon are counting but Billboard aren’t?? (they seem to cover the exact same time period?)
Thanks for the info anyway. I’m always very critical of the Oricon Style website – but, isn’t Billboard’s even worse! … it’s going to take some getting used to. Also, I have Oricon stats going back to the late 1980s. With Billboard, I feel like I’ve got nothing.
So if anybody knows the best places to pick up more back data- please say if you can.
In the cinema, they just publish grosses. Net incomes are so subject to accounting creativity that you can basically make them say anything you want. So, it’s purely – what £$\ comes in the door. That’s probably got its own problems but starting to think that, the music industry could do a lot worse than just go with that, given the complications it’s facing. It might for instance solve a lot of the problems with what to do with streaming (in the UK, try to include it but in such a half-arsed manner that it totally ruined the charts for the whole year; in Japan – pretend it’s not happening!)… mou..
