Tomioka High School from Osaka came in second in their dance competition but I'm pretty sure the winners didn't make it to the 59th Japan Record Awards on national television.

The lady crying at the podium is the team coach.

There was another big performance they did of this on New Year's TV though it included Hirano Nora as well. I'm really glad that it's giving the song a new lease of life because Oginome's 80s version is really amazing (a great example of a cover better than the original), the MV is also fantastic.

Thanks for the updates to the thread I'm having a massive 80s Jpop phase at the moment, so it's gold.

Anyway I better return the favour.

Morikawa Yukari - SHOW ME

The audio is a bit messed up (obviously copied from an old VHS) but I really like the performance.

Ishii Akemi - CHA-CHA-CHA

Also used by TDC briefly.

I discovered this Tavares song today, and it sounded suuuper familiar.

I was pretty sure it sounded like a Hiromi Iwasaki song, so I scanned through her discography and found the song!

I can't find any credits to Tavares on the internet for the song, so I think it might have been stolen.

I might be wrong and they actually did give them credit in the CD booklet, but whatever. Have a listen to both songs from the 00:24 mark.

Tavares - Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel 1976

Hiromi Iwasaki - 処女航海 1980

Covers are totally fine, but you know... I don't think Murashita Kouzou is exactly what one would call a "Female Idol from Japan" lmao

"Hatsukoi" is an absolute classic though :)

I was just coming back to edit my post because I realized it was showa idols, not showa music. I'll make up for tho...

kirara to urara

Lemon Angel (Look  at those wota... I'm jealous)

Hayami Yu (more grisley wota...)

Ishida Ayumi (original ayumin)

Sorry Sorry for being off topic, I'm gonna edit that last post!

Also TDC (their bubbly routine) and oginome chan were mentioned eariler in the thread and that song (dancing hero) is also a cover of a western song called eat you up. I prefer oginome's version tho. I like dancing hero... its one of my fav songs at the moment...

Oginome Yuko (posted for her slipping live)

Angie Gold - eat you up

and dancing hero in turn inspired this current, but retro sounding song koi no dance queen from Yakuza
