It was announced at the Takamina concert last night.

TPE was old news, hopeful it is a reality now. MNL been rumoured few months ago with the development of the theater complex.

This empire just keeps getting bigger. I wonder if we'll see any girls from the Japan based groups get transferred to any of these. If they do I would hope the girl(s) fare as well as Nakagawa Haruka did after her transfer to JKT48.

My thoughts is Taipei has the most chance of success, follow by Bangkok then Manila ..
For me .. I came from a culture that my first idols are all from Taiwan .. that is where the hub for MandoPop is at ..
The Taiwan pop culture and language accent is different from that of China even if all are Chinese and it kind of follow more of a Japanese Kawaii culture .. so its more appealing to me ..
So I may go for it .. its half the journey compare to Japan..

Can I throw the first speculation in ..
Maybe Miyuki is going Taipei? since like she has been throwing in ideas that she will not be in NMB48 in time ..
I actually hope she go there .. it would be a Taiwan wota massacre ..

Bangkok would be nice to go for as it is a short trip over and many people in my country love going to Thailand as a short holiday ..
Just that the country's political instability is always the worry ..

For Manila .. I know nuts so I wouldn't comment ..
So any fans from the Philippines can tell me if they think it would work?

^ well .. its up to your own understanding of your own culture if you are from there ..
Like I do not think that it would work in my country .. even though in 2010 Aki-P did announce that idea and other countries in my region.. but basically I think only JKT48 happened ..
Its because (1) My country market is too small that's why AKB48 theater, Cafe and shop fail in my country (2) people in my country does not really have the culture to go for regular live shows basically we are rich but cheapo when it comes to this stuff (3)Going gaga over young girls is unacceptable in my country and I think the girls in my country don't like the idea of grown men going nuts for them and no parent will allow their daughter to do this job ... so ...

That's what I think too. Also, Japan is much more of a collectivist society than America's individualist one, so a group with more than eight members would be ineffective. Too many members to keep up with. America would focus much more on the music and if the group just did covers it wouldn't take off because, let's face it, bubblegum pop isn't in right now. Idol groups are different than performing groups, and with so many amazingly talented performers barely selling, an American AKB would be laughed at because everyone wouldn't be polished starlets. Revamping the group would help, but then it would just be a girl band. And younger aged girls would freak people out.

 

But as a short-lived gimmick, maybe...

JKT has additional track in English for sometimes now. I lose count, 4-5 singles.

@Matt, why'd you forget MNL48?

Some guys in 2ch were jokingly saying Tano should be in MNL48.

This'll be a long post so please bear with me.

I'm all out for BKK and TPE to get their 48 groups. Taiwan is very much JPop/J-Ent updated and while I haven't visited the country, they get to even scrutinize and talk about some aspects of J-ent in their shows (Heck I even watched a Taiwanese show discussing The Most Cute Female High Schooler 2015 Kanto/Kansai in the middle of serious domestic news.) Plus, their local idol/pop fanbase is well developed.

Same for Thailand. We have all known that there was a Thai film that even has Berryz Koubou in its subplot. Not sure how Thai Ent goes for idols but if we count Thaipop idols having high view counts in Youtube, then local support for idols is strong, so they can manage, and supporting a Japanese Idol group adaptation will not be a problem.

What I'm more troubled about though is MNL48. I've been writing much about it in threads but I'll keep it simple:

01 - Fawning for small/pre/pubescent girls is viewed on as creepy and unless these girls can sing really well, don't convince everyone to join in the bandwagon and expect action groups concerned for minors' welfare to step in. The country suffers from a high problem in child abuse/trafficking cases.
02 - We have this "love teams" where a pair is marketed to the audience. This is totally opposite in the Japanese idol ethos.
03 - As a pop idol, you must "impress" the audience and be well developed enough to get their attention, which is totally opposite the Japanese idol culture.
04 - The concept of "bagay" in local media. Bagay means "to fit in" or "to suit well." The Philippines does not heavily bank on the cultue of cute.
05 - Majority of the Filipinos are not big spenders. If you ask me why I'm opposite, it's because I have some money to burn, which not all have.
06 - Some of the songs in AKB will not translate well into Filipino.
07 - The showbiz industry these days in this country is more like an industry built by gossip.
08 - There's not enough media jobs for the girls to fall back to.
09 - If they choose the wrong network to peddle their goods and ideas on, I doubt the project will take off. Big networks literally take the monopoly in broadcasting media in the country and they could make or break a big name artist.
10 - The recording industry is in a major slump.
11 - This is a personal concern of mine but with the number of half-Japanese in the country, making MNL48 as a way to make a transfer to AKB48 is a possibility.

However, it might work somehow:

01 - Love ban rule might be a good precedent for Catholic groups who want good role models for the youth.
02 - It's a breath of fresh air.
03 - Who wouldn't want cute girls?

For the member who will transfer here, she might find it a good transfer because:

01 - Most Japanese artists come to the country and slip on and off the country incognito. No one knew Alice Hirose or even Tachibana Keita even went to the country last year, so if one of them has this secret rendezvous with someone, this is probably the country to go to.
02 - Food is cheap, plentiful.
03 - Lots of beaches; airfare isn't that expensive, so going from Manila to Cebu is just a hop away.
04 - Learning English. Yes.
05 - There are a lot of good-looking people as well.

I could relate to the singing part as many Philippines international singers are well-known for their abilities and have hit western market like USA for years..

im from Manila, and i could say, this wont work here. but im very excited for this. if i am wrong and MNL48 would do great, they could change the long stagnant type of filipino music which is full of Ballads and Alternative Rock.

I agree with you but I'm leaning more on the "it will work here" side. I've made some of my friends here in the Philippines who are into k-pop or who aren't really familiar with j-pop listen to some AKB songs and they ended up to be more obsessed with AKB than I am(lol).

 

I think the "it'll work part" will heavily depend on the publicity they'll be doing for the girls. If they aren't properly publicized, Akimoto-san will waste money on MNL48.
