On 22nd February 2016, SWORD ART ONLINE - THE BEGINNING PROJECT WAS ANNOUNCED.

That is not the anime but the game. 2 different things.
This project is not like the SAO games released for Play Station which has a storyline based on the novel/anime, where you play as Kirito.

This new game is an MMO and normally it doesn't follow a storyline since it is an open world sandbox concept.
You will not play as Kirito, the player themselves are their own character.
The players decide what they want to do based on quests.

Basically, the new game has nothing to do with the SAO story, this is the game itself - it is Aincard.

Actually I kind of agree for it to be merged. Since it is revolving around SAO anyways.

Still quite excited to see how this goes. However hopes arent gonna be THAT high.

Concerning The Beginning project, they are coming up with a Nerve Gear prototype.
I knew which technology they are going to utilize when I saw the latest documentary on Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant a few days ago.
To train workers to do decontamination work on the plant TEPCO used virtual reality.
Workers walk through a virtual replica of the plant and learn every corner of it like in a game.
The last sketch in the dengekionline article, that is what the gear look like.
A person wear an eyepiece that looks like glasses ( this looks more like what we see in .HACK// ) and a controller in one hand to control leg movement.
The eye piece have sensors to sense head motion just like the Oculus headgear.

Let's hope it isn't just a PR stunt, and that they'll find the fandom strong enough to continue leeching money off the fans by creating what the fan wants :arrow:
