[Pukovnik Krv]

So, there's a new underground idol powerhouse in town. Formed by the merger of DM Produce and Dernier, A Minor is a new agency with many already established groups and a few new ones coming up.

Fumimi started out as a really independent idol (she was her own producer, negotiated her own ways onto bills and eventually got a song made for her) but recently she joined DM Produce and had Daichi take care of that stuff. Her image is very much chuunibyou, and she introduces herself as the Magic Vampire Girl. Her first song, Vampire Kiss, sounds like this:

Kind of a collaboration between so many things it's hard to know where to start. A Dernier group, who play with a punk covers band (called 6% is Mine) who also produce about half of their songs. The other half are produced by Vocaloid songwriter Nejishiki so yea. The girls are chill. Kai used to study in America and so speaks pretty good English. Montero is Filipino but can only speak Japanese. Montero's also a massive sadist. Their lives are stupidly fun.

Guso Drop are crazy. Formed by 2&'s Saki and 4 new girls, their image and sound is completely different. Leaning more towards a technical death metal, punk and techno sound, their fans are also a lot more hardcore than most idol fans. Expect moshpits, stagediving and crowdsurfing, as well as slippery floors from Shion spitting water everywhere. Rei and Saki both scream. Shion left in early 2016, and Saki at the end of 2016. From 2017, Rin, Wakapiku (formerly of Gekidol and Lolisyn Reboot) and Miyako have joined.

Daichi's wish for a older, more adult kind of group debuted on January 23rd. Their theme is partying. They seem to be living up to it so far. I've seen Maruyama at a few Guso Drop concerts just hanging around and getting drunk. Will see where it goes.

A group with a core of pretty fun craziness. Urara is tiny but evil, Miyabi is broken in a really cute way (reminds me of a less violent Shion, actually), Mirumo is basically an exhibitionist and Hono really doesn't stand out. Since summer 2016, 3 members have dropped out in quick succession.

Probably the most skillful performance unit in A minor, they started as Parallel 5, lost some members, rebranded, got ripped off, lost all their money, stuck in there and recently signed with A minor. Just over half a year later they resigned from A minor and decided to go back to being independent.

After that intro, I'd have to like all those groups even if I didn't like them! 

But from what I've heard so far, I do like them.   And I'm so glad to see so much independent/underground activity on the idol scene.

 

And Fumimi's eyepatch is very... eyepatchy.  It goes well with her wings and devil horns.

It's an interesting set of groups they have an that roster some good acts. Guso Drop and Hoshina Fumimi are really fun acts. I'm a bit of a sucker for weird stage props and general craziness.

Her name is Urara, and she's very cute.

Shion is graduating from Guso Drop so she can focus on her studies.

She got into her school of choice.

 

The machine-translation seems to suggest that the future of Guso Drop is uncertain. I really, really hope they stay together!

That's a relief. I'm going to miss Shion, but I don't want the group to disband either.

I don't think Guso Drop would disband from a grad unless it was Saki's tbh. But still, Shion's graduation hurts me because she was my alltime fave within A Minor Idols. She, along with Rei, were the only two from the group to actually stand out to me. 2016 is such a shit year for me omg

Updated the first post a bit to be more representative of the current state of affairs.

 

• Shion left Guso Drop
• Marilyn and Ban left XYZ
• Poroporo Baroque lost Kaname Karen, gained Miyabi and Mirumo, and debuted.
• Parallel Japan signed with Am Records. I think they're under Hamada's guidance rather than Daichi's.
• Tokyo Dob Nezumi kind of split in two. Whilst Mirei and An got on well, they were after different things so Mirei will stay in Tokyo and recruit a new member, whilst An will move to a new, yet to be determined unit.
• Shin Dental Clinic Corporation's debut live happened. They walked onto stage, declared that they had disbanded, and walked off.

Also Guso Drop's 2nd anniversary is later this month, with the apprehension raising title "We have important news."

 

Judging from conversations with Daichi, Daniel and Saki, I'd say the probability is high that Saki will leave Guso to focus on 2&. Just a rumour atm though.

Updated the first post. Obviously Saki leaving Guso and 3 members joining, but also Poroporo Baroque had 3 members leave and only one join, and Parallel Japan decided to quit the agency and go back to being independent.

 

Also, T-Tau is a collab between Montero, Manaminorisa's Minori, and Caramel's Rumi. Aside from Montero they're not affiliated with A minor. Kai sometimes plays guitar for them. Kai also formed a side project called Coming Soon with Ouse Akira.

The Guso Drop one-man was quite spectacular - I kinda thought that the place would be pretty much empty until they actually started - I have no real idea how many people were there but it was well beyond my 350 prediction, probably more like 1,000.
