Happy Birthday to the gorgeous and to my most favorite Kotomi, Ono Kotomi !
I genuinely hope she debuts soon, her improvement shows and she's such a sweet girl. Of course it helps that she's good friends with my oshi   She's been in a lot of blog pictures with debuted members lately as well, hopefully this means she's sticking around for a long time, or that her debut is near. I'd love for her to end up in Icchan's group!!

I really like this girl, and want her to debut...but the next opportunity is MM, and I'm not sure I want her there or not, or rather, if she would fit in.
This is the first time I've wanted a girl to debut based almost purely on looks haha.

OnoKoto had really grown on me over the years, so I'm saddened that she's left the program. I was afraid that she would leave soon if she didn't get a debut, and it looks like that's how things played out. Although her presence in the KSS predates the time when I started giving more thorough analyses, here are my scores and reviews of her test performances over the years:

 

2016 - 5/10

2017 - 7/10

7.0/10 - Ono Kotomi - Akai Nikkichou

This was a major improvement over last year when she had my lowest score of 5 for the event.  She has impressive range, but still needs to work on her control a bit while under pressure.

 

2018 - 7/10

7.0/10 - Ono Kotomi - MI DA RA Matenrou

I don't really think she's improved much in the past year, but I'll still take this over her 2016 performance.  I complimented how much her ranged improved last year, but it almost seems like she's taken a step back.  I didn't find anything in the song particularly offensive to the ears, but it also didn't stand out a lot either.  If her range improves or if she's given a song that better suits her, I think she could probably do better.

 

2019 - 7.5/10

7.5/10 - Ono Kotomi - LOVE LIKE CRAZY - [Idol Ready: 85%]

This may not be the highest score I give for the event, but this performance should certainly be considered a personal victory for Kotomi. She's had problems with her control and range since I gave her my lowest score for 2016's event, only getting a 5 for her performance of Akai Freesia. While her performance in 2017 was singificantly improved, she still had a lot of the same weaknesses in that performance as well as in 2018. The 4th time's the charm though, because this felt like real improvement. Now I wish she had a little more oomph so you could feel the song a bit more, but she's on the right track. There's plenty of improvement that she may still be able to get even after so many years in the program, but this level of performance would more than suffice from what I'd expect of a newbie member in any group.

I'm so sad =( I think this is the first girl that I genuinely wanted to debut. After her not getting added this last round of debuts (and not even the trainee group), I was worried, but not horrified since she wasnt that old yet; that she still had time. But maybe she didn't think so. To be honest, she probably didnt fit into the mold for H!P, but I thought she still had great potential.
Here's to hoping we see her down the line doing something somewhere else.

Kotomi posted to Instagram today announcing that her father passed away from COVID. She mentioned that he won't be there for her coming-of-age ceremony or her wedding.
