It's obvious that you've missed out on a lot that Paruru has done and has said, that has pissed off a lot of fans. I am not "a lot of fans", I am one person. I am referring to Japanese fans here, the Japanese scene. And so since you think I just make things up, you're upset. If that's how you think it is, of course you're going to be upset. But maybe, just maybe, you should take your time to get to know the whole picture. Since I really don't care to go through everything regarding this with you, I'll leave you to figure that out on your own. It's all documented, and it is out there, if you know where to look. If not, that's OK. I don't particularly care very much. But don't point your fingers at me, thinking I make shit up. Because I don't.

And as for someone saying something about x girl or y girl - whether it's a girl I like or not - if it is the truth, and if it is actual observable facts - no, there's nothing I would have to say about that except actually accepting that that's how it is. I'm not like some people are, thinking their favorite is a precious perfect angel incapable of doing anything wrong, living in their own little isolated bubble, disconnected from everything. They're all human, that's the thing. And many girls that I have liked, have had as favorites, even as oshimen, have made mistakes in various degrees.

Kimi wa melody is very typical of AKB48 song.. I don't hate it but I don't love it either..

an underwhelming song for their 10th anniversary single.. I was hoping for something 'bomb' since this is their anniversary afterall..

 

I also think that it is so weird for Sakura to be chosen as center.. I don't hate her but still weird nonetheless.. She really pretty & have the ace aura but this is not HKT anniversary single. They should've transfer her to AKB completely before doing this.

Exactly. A combination of the two: AKS promoting, and more girls actively embracing the essence of fanservice (and of course this refers to more than just physical appeal, flirting, etc. but also positive personalities, being genuinely interested in the fan, etc).

 

Many of these girls have become very salty, with the unfortunate consequences that brings along. They think it's enough to just stand there. But it's not. Fanservice is ridiculously important. Quite a lot of comments regarding these handshake results in recent time in Japan are exactly about this. How the girls needs to become better at appealing themselves, and be less salty. You have girls who are of the younger generation, who are supposed to be the future, but they emulate the traits of some of their seniors and when it comes to these handshake events which are core for the group, they do quite poorly. That's not good at all. It's just sad.
 

There are some girls however, like Naachan, Yuirii, Miion, Seichan, and others, who are really good at this (very cheerful personality and are engaged with the fan when meeting the fan), and it makes fans want to return again and again. Things can change of course, but it's rather urgent and both management and the girls need to step up.

Miru is a great example of what can happen when you utilize handshake events and try to appeal to your fans. Her popularity surged after she upped her game and started interacting with her fans a lot more. She went from an relatively unknown NMB member to rank #4 (automatically bumped to #3 after yukirin's kennin ended and nana graduated). This is what AKB members (and many other 48G members) should be doing. HS have become a way to gain fans, not just greet the ones you already have in a mediocre way. Im sure that if I was to ever go to a HS event, my favorite members would change drastically depending on the experience I have with them in the HS event. The girls really need to realize that although it's hard to keep up a front for so long, its something you have to do to keep fans coming back (and with friends). 

I worked at lush for a while and one thing they expected you to do was keep a smile on your face at ALL times and be a happy little piece of unicorn shit constantly to make the shoppers happy and feel comfortable enough to come back. It got to the point where I had to take breaks in the back room just to breathe and take a break from that "character", but you have to do it. I can name a number of members in AKB who could do better at HS events (though, this is just judging from what i've heard, not from experience).

A small comment I'm inclined 2 make about handshake events is; recently most AKB48 only girls don't get 2 appear on their singles at all, if they do it's usually in team songs fronted by the same old senior faces or worse sister group aces w/double membership; albums C A similar story unfold, move on from there & the majority suffer a similar fate in tv appearances & basically everything else. Taking all this into account can u blame them 4 simply not caring anymore? Takamina & other senior members can talk about hardwork & rewards till they die, 4 most of the kohai that BS won't mean squat, they're not blind 2 the shafting they're suffering any more than the fans are. Most of them are probably close 2 their breaking point & will be announcing graduation sooner rather than later if the situation stays the same 4 much longer. I can just imagine the chats they have when recording time 4 a new single comes along. "What song(s) R U in this time?" "Oh nothing really just a team song fronted by Sayanee."

to be fair, while i do agree with that, i also think that if they really want to do their best in the group and be in a better position than what they're in now, they NEED to improve their hs skills. yeah they might not see the point in doing hs events for a single they have no part of (heck, i would think the same thing), but instead of moping about it and thinking "whats the point" and not bother, they could be thinking "what can i do to improve my position next time?" "if i work harder in hs events, i might bump myself up a few spots in that team song which could get me an extra 5 seconds screen time, i'll be right beside the front girls of that team song who are senbatsu members who fans will be looking at, so they might see me and be interested" 

 

I know it sounds really gullible, but i think its all about the mindset you have when going into things like this. The girls know the situation of the group when they go into it, they know that some girls can be in the 3rd-7th generation and NEVER be included in a senbatsu, but if they work hard enough they might just get there.

^It's true that they go in knowing they might never make regular Senbatsu or even Undergirls, but I can't imagine staying positive or even fathom how much more effort the girls would have 2 make 2 improve their chances in their current environment. At the end of the day how well they do at handshakes doesn't seem 2 matter on such a grand scale that management will actually push them more as there are now & were in the past a fair # of girls with decent to good consistent handshake turnout that management never bothered 2 push. Right now things must look bleaker than ever what with so many of them being excluded from singles entirely, the lack of much exposure as a whole, graduated seniors being in their upcoming single while they won't be, & of course the recent blows of Yuihan pretty much being a b*tch about their plight & a sister group ace centering their group's 10th anniversary single which adds unnecessary insult 2 injury since, oh yeah, most of them - the actual AKB girls, aren't in it at all.

There's some things that makes a girl successful or not: How she is in stage appearances (her performance (singing/dancing/attitude), her MC's), how she is in handshake events (interaction, fanservice, etc.), and how she is on social media (photos, videos, text - interesting or not?). These things done well can make the girl get appearances on their TV shows. Things done well there can mean repeated appearances, which can mean appearances on other external TV shows.

 

Let's go back a few years. It's 9th gen, and they are all fresh kenkyuusei. Everybody more or less equals. Miyumiyu has been made into the ace and center of these girls, and it seems like a great choice. Why? She's young, she has a pretty face and a pretty body. Her voice is angelic, and she has actual stage presence. For that matter, many of the 9th gen girls do. Comparing them with the dreaded 8th gen is like night and day. And when Miyumiyu takes center of Zannen Shoujo instead of an 8th gen girl, all you can do is go wow, and nod your head and say "This is it!". She quickly rises in popularity. Fans love her... that is, until we get to the handshake events... because as it so happens to be, she's boring as hell...

 

Here's a girl who has been given it all by management. She won the lottery as a kenkyuusei with center and ace position, and she had everything to show for as well. Except how she is in events. Because she's so boring and unpopular, that years later, she actually does not want to do handshake events, and skips out on them instead. Gone is the center and ace position. All this is but some faint memory in the distance, slowly fading away.

 

So here's the thing: How you are in the events is so damn crucial. Because if you have everything else, and you act terrible in the events, your popularity will drop hard. The only reason Paruru managed to do so well is because fans viewed her as a hilarious joke in the beginning. It's true. She was like the second coming of Ayanon, if you remember her. So the core fans who follows everything AKB48 does, started cheering on her simply because of this - and most did it as a tongue-in-cheek thing. Even her handshake events were tolerated because it was part of her weird personality. And eventually she got media attention because of it, and then everything escalated to ridiculous proportions and she became a senbatsu member. By now she was so big that no matter what she did, she still had popularity. But eventually the joke turned sour for many people. Even so, she's still a media girl because she's now established. So it doesn't matter much what she does or doesn't do, she's a senbatsu member no matter what (which is another fault of the group, that girls who get a certain level of popularity, "can do no wrong" after this point).

 

As for Yuihan, it is really sad to see I have to say... Because it seems that once she got this big role or whatever, she's become a predictable politician. She cannot see why some of the girls are feeling sad about the current situation. How does that build confidence in her? It's just more of the same old same old.

 

That the sister group girls are in the AKB48 singles I think is pretty hard to change now. The only way as I see it, is that there's "only" one girl per group, as a limit. So that makes 12 AKB48 girls with 4 sister group girls. But what can and must be done better, is to actually dare using the popular girls of AKB48 - the girls who works hard in every arena be that stages, social media, TV shows, concerts, or the events themselves. These girls who have rising popularity must be taken care of by management, because they are the future of the group. But having said that, "future" and "present" is more or less indistinguishable, depending on how you view it. So one cannot be too slow about these things...

 

And to add: The girls should always continue doing their best, even if it's hard. Not doing their best effectively ensures that they will have zero chance.

My poor Mayuyu is probably not going to be in Top 3 this year, which will probably be Sayanee/Jurina/Sashihara.

Sayanee and Jurina would need a 60-70k increase in votes and then some to beat Mayu's votes in 2015. I honestly think she's safe this year. 

If I had to call it I would say

1) Yukirin

2) Sasshi

3) Mayu

4) Juri

5) Sayanee

6) Paru

7) Sakura

(8th will be Milky or Suda) 

 

But yeah, the way the girls interact with their fans in HS events, in Theater shows and on SNS is such a huge factor in how well they rank in SSK, and whether management will pick them to be a part of the single. Paruru's salty gimmick died out because people got tired of her being like that and so she didn't have a significant increase in the SSK because that gimmick couldn't give her more fans (and it didn't help that she had to cancel a lot of her HS events). The sister group members are clearly doing something right when it comes to fan interaction and AKB's new generation can really learn from it. 

 

^Especially Tano Yuka. I love her to bits (she's my AKB #2, 48G #3), but her fan interaction both in HS events and online is terrible and it shows in her HS sell out slots, her followers on twitter compared to other members, and her SSK rank.

The only reason I'm looking forward this single right now are the B sides, altho I don't think any of them will surprise me... probably all groups will have generic cute songs. I was excited in the beginning because I thought with Yuko, Acchan, Tomochin and Mariko coming back the song will be something fun like Aitakatta, but now with the main song being so bland... I'm not really excited anymore.

I think this made matters worse.. it's pretty obvious that this performance is probably the second time they've even heard the song at all.
 
The vocal track doesn't match what the girls are performing at all, since several parts sounded like Sakura and Sayanee solo lines..it's like they forgot to add vocals from certain girls. And the dance choreography was probably taught to them right before going on stage, from the look of it.
 
Overall, it's messy and haphazard...but I'll cut them slack since this is the first performance and it's not the true formation that was rehearsed. Once they perform with the grads though, my standards will be much higher so they'd better deliver.

hmm.. the song wasn't terrible. it definitely looked like they'd only listened to it a few times before performing lol. but it was okay. Dance was really awkward though, i'm gonna hope that because the choreography still needs to be tweaked like with BwT. I think with a song like that, only Sakura, Mayu and to an extent Paruru and Yukirin would have suited the center position, so i'm glad it's sakura this time. Hopefully she doesn't look so scared when performing it next time.
