New 48 group based on Niigata will be formed in 2015 was announced during the AKB48 Request Hour. It will be called NGT48. Rie Kitahara, AKB48 member, will moved and take the captaincy. Yuki Kashiwagi will also transfer and join the group.

The group was allowed to join the draft pick and they picked 2 members:
Nishigata Marina (西潟茉莉奈), age 19
Ogino Yuka (荻野由佳), age 16

They will hold audition for the 1st generation members soon and establish the theater.

NGT48's official theater will open at Lovela Bandai 2 in Niigata.

This was announced on May 24th during a press conference held at Niigata Nippou Media Shop. Attendees of the press conference included NGT48 theater director Imamura Etsuro, NGT48 captain Kitahara Rie, and the candidates who were drafted into the group, Nishigata Marina and Ogino Yuka.

To Imamura's signal, a video started playing for about 1,100 guests who gathered at the press conference. When it was announced that the theater would open at Lovela Bandai 2, the crowd gave a loud cheer and a round of applause. On the reason for the theater opening at that specific location, Imamura said, "We decided on Bandai as it is accessible, being about 15-minutes away from Niigata Station, and that it's a town where people of different generations come to gather. I want various people to come and visit." Kitahara added, "It's a fashion building, so I'm expecting NGT48 Theater to be a fashionable theater. Everyone in Niigata, please continue to support us."

Besides this announcement, Imamura revealed that there were 5,850 applicants for NGT48's 1st generation audition.

I think they should take more members from the draft since the draftees have been trained well.
That is a lot of people applying almost 6000. That could easily fill all the N G T groups. I wonder how many apply in AKB48 1st generation then?

Based on that quote, I wonder if they'll be promoted as the Fashion group of the 48 groups. Like, members appearing often in fashion magazines, appearing in fashion-related events, etc.

No idea about that, but I saw some brief headline about their manager (former SKE48 manager) saying they would like to bring SKE48's dance power into NGT48. But that is more about performance aspect, would be interesting to see how they unfold in terms of image etc. as you mention.

The 1st team has been set/selected. Some pictures but no detail yet on who is who. I read that the youngest is 12 and the oldest is 20.

#5 for what it's worth, is named Kato Minami, and she has been uncovered by 2ch already as being a former semi-pro model - and she's in a relationship as well right now... (source: her own Twitter account as well as boyfriend's. I think she's set her to private now, boyfriend has not).

For me, I think #29 and #6 looks very interesting. #6 has got a strange vibe going on, she looks very awkward. Perhaps it's just the photo and her being nervous, but I hope she's funny

The first generation auditions for members of NGT48 took place today, with 22 members selected!



The auditions took place on July 25th, 2015, and included 74 candidates. A lot of the candidates were also girls who took part in various other auditions and collaborations including part-time AKB members and former draft candidates.

Of the 74 pre-screened candidates, 38 of them are natives of Niigata Prefecture. Out of the 22 members who passed the audition, 12 of them were natives of Niigata Prefecture. The youngest candidate is 12 years old, with the oldest being 20 years old, with an average overall age between 15 and 16.

Seems like Nakai Rika has sparked a lot of people's interests. Based on looks and introductions, I think I might become a fan of Tsugami Oguma and Hinata Honma.

Yamaguchi Maho has gotten a lot of attention online, due to her looks. She is also the one with highest views on her self-introduction video on YouTube, with over 115k views. 2nd highest is Kato Minami with almost 41k views.
