Interesting to see that Annin is opting out of the election. I wonder if this means something more, such as her thinking about graduation or if it's just in line with her rejecting senbatsu for 40th single on the grounds of not participating in events. If so and she chooses to not graduate, I wonder if she will return to events or not, and if not, reject senbatsu position and election this once, or throughout her career...

 

Kojiharu not participating is also interesting since she hasn't announced her graduation. I would think that she'd want to take part of her final election if she will graduate this year, but who knows... Mocchi not participating is also a little surprising.

 

Renacchi aiming at senbatsu, and Piichan wants #49 since it's center of Future Girls. Jiina wants to rank in at #27, since 2 = Ji, 7 = Na (and she admits it's a bit high but still...). And Nakochan wants to rank in at #34 because of 34(5) = Sashi(ko).

Out of the 27 members not participating, only 6 of them have announced graduation, and Ikoma has "graduated" from AKB so she probably decided not to participate because of that.

While I would like to see most of the girls participate, with some girls dropping out due to various reasons, it does open up for other girls to rank. And that is cool, considering how big of an event this is. So it's exciting to watch who ranks at which position and how they react and what they say etc. For some it also creates a momentum that continues for some time, helping them become more established as an idol, so this years election certainly has the chance to deliver.

About Kojiharu, during last year's election I got the feeling she doesn't really care anymore about rankings. She's been around for almost ten years and doesn't really have to rely on her ranking to get work. And even if she doesn't rank, management will probably put her in the senbatsu for upcoming singles anyway.
