Genki no Shawaa (Pep Shower), the first Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters ending theme. One of the first few anime I watched, and the catchiest ED I knew as a kid.

I LOVED all 3 OPs, sad for Miyuki Kanbe's death, and it was from there I started liking Eri Kitamura.

My fave songs were KODOU Perfect Harmony, Beautiful Wish (still a very memorable sad song), Star Jewel and Legend of Mermaid.

Yep! I love all the songs, but my favourites are Legend of Mermaid and Return to the Sea.

Yep! I love all the songs, but my favourites are Legend of Mermaid and Return to the Sea.

 

 

I see. Return to the Sea's sad, and I guess quite a lot of fans I spoke too like Legend of Mermaid too. Your fave mermaid?

I didn't really listen to Japanese music at all until I started watching anime. All the anime I watched as a kid all had their openings replaced with English versions (CardCaptor Sakura, Sailor Moon, Pokemon etc.)... so it wasn't those ones.

 

I believe the first series I watched in Japanese was FullMetal Alchemist, so it was probably Porno Graffiti's Melissa:

 

 

I was like either 13 or 14 at the time... so 10 years ago?

Hi! This my first post, so I may as well start here and it'll kind of explain my username too.
 
The first Japanese song I can remember is actually from the Bubblegum Crisis Anime series, the original 80s one. A bit like Da-manta-ray's post above much was dubbed into English but the version I saw of BGC was subbed, so it was actually this little beauty:

 

Konya Wa Hurricane.
