Edit: actually, thinking about it, a friend of a friend sent me the Rin song 'Kokoro' during her weeb phase. That was before I even knew about anime or anything.

Though a legit 1st Japanese song would probably C-ute's Everyday Zekkouchou

I'm gonna guess Kimigayo (because they play it at football games, and I grew up watching the World Cup), but the first one I actually remember is this (from Kill Bill, not Lady Snowblood, sorry to say):

My first was this back in 2006 playing DDR. I'd never really heard music in another language and I didn't care much for the song at first, but I didn't hate it. Later I liked it a lot more (especially the full version).
This next one was the first one that I actually paid more attention (since it had an anime background) to and got me more into the whole genre.
After that, it took me about 5-6 years before I discovered H!P and anything outside of Konami.

It was the first Pokemon opening.
It was 2000 or something, and I thought Japan was something like a third world country, so I never expected this kind of music. Then I discovered all cartoon songs from my childhood were originally Japanese, and in fact I was living in a more third world country than Japan.

A pretty generic answer from me: has to be Sailor Moon's opening, Moonlight Densetsu that's as far back as I can remember.

Does "The Mothra Song" count? The lyrics are in Thai or Malaysian, I think.

Pretty sure the first Japanese language song I heard would have been this - this was the only anime on TV that kept the Japanese theme song. It was also on pretty late at night iirc.
I still bloody love this song.
Then for non anime:
And soon after that the first J-pop song:
Then I remember I heard a big variety of songs from various other J-artists from this website... I've forgotten the name of it, but it had information on loads of bands and singers and the person who made it put their favourite song by each one up for download. There was also a forum there, which was the first J-music forum I joined. I can't remember what it was called though. This was... 12 years ago? Yeah, I was 14.
I got banned from that forum in the end for spamming lol... I was a very annoying 14 year old.

I'm not entirely sure. I think it was a PuffyAmiYumi song, because I liked the cartoon when I was about 12.

Like most of you, the first Japanese song I remembered is the ending theme of Ikkyu-san. It was around 1990
but what really hooked me into Japanese music is
X Japan "Silent Jealousy".
I can't escape Japanese show biz ever since.
