I was also thinking she resembled Kudo a bit too. Particularly on that bottom left picture. If I had just seen that picture I might well have thought it was Haruka until I looked at it carefully. But the smile definitely Sayumi's.

I have just watched solo angle of Sayumi and heard singing lalala no pipipi, and discovered she and nozomi sasaki have similar voice when the latter sings papepepu

Yup...most likely that.  I also thought she'd last quite a while - maybe at least to celebrate 15 years of being in the group and H!P.

I'm not even that big of a fan of Sayu but she was a bloody great idol. Watching her in the CHANCE concert was just... amazing to see her growth.

Come on-- Sayumi is the longest serving Morning Musume ever. She's been around a lot longer than anyone expected her to be.

 

That being said, I don't know that I see Mizuki as at all ready or worthy of being called "leader" of Morning Musume. Not after a string of such experienced leaders as the group has had so far. Although I have come to respect many of the 9th-11th gen members, for me-- Sayumi being gone is the end of Morning Musume.

Oh well there is somebody who is actually happy about this news (just becuz other members don't have enough screentime on TV shows).

By the way, I don't think it's the end of this era. We lost Aichan, Gaki, Reina, but the group grew even stronger after that. Furthermore, I think Eripon should take one role of Sayu (being narcissistic), Harunan should take the other (being leader) after Sayu graduates.

I am not surprised, but it still makes me sad. In the beginning I never liked Sayu much, but in the past few years she has grown into such an amazing woman and a capable leader whom I've grown to like and respect. I will be very sad to see her go. It will definitely be the end of the Morning Musume era, but it simply had to happen one day soon. I know there were rumors management was trying to push her out because of her age, but I do hope this is also her decision and that she has a bright future ahead of her.
