Does anyone know how the girls are chosen? Do they have to apply for the job...?

They are selected from an internal audition. The girls have to be in some production companies first, then the companies nominate them for an audition. There is no information on how many girls each company can nominates or how many girls participate in an audition because, you know, it is confidential. But what we can see is that the girls have to be able to talk with confident and be able to follow instructions, apart from being able to commute to the studio a few times a week early in the morning. The show starts at 7am, and this probably means that the girls have to be at the studio by 5am, tough jobs really. Singing and dancing abilities are not really what they are looking for but more like a plus. Most Oha Girls who continue working in entertainment industry ended being either actresses or TV talents, for example Ueto Aya, Yamada Yuu and Becky. I think UF* have a close relationship with TV Tokyo (probably from Hello! Morning), and that might be the reason why we have seen Koharu, Ogawa Saki and Eripon, and now Rei as Oha Girls.
^^ I really want to see Ozeki Mai or Uta or Funakki as an Oha Girl(aww), but Uta is akward in front of the camera; Mai does not listen to instruction; and Funakki is in Osaka. So Rei is better suit for the job because she lives in Tokyo, can speak calmly and clearly, and she is awesome, so I have no complaint.
^ Rei is definitely more talented in singing and dancing than Hamachan. Hamachan was very bad in both dancing and singing when she just join KSS, and she is very shy. She is better on singing and dancing and has more confidence now but still not exceptional. But wota always fall for a cute, hard working girl. I saw her once at Hello! Concert, and she was just so much fun to watch.
