ANGERME (アンジュルム) was proposed by second generation member Nakanishi Kana.

The name comes from a combination of the French words for angel (ange) and tear (larme). Nakanishi wanted the members of ANGERME,

the angels, to work together to achieve their goals, and once they reach them, be overcome with happiness and cry.

On the latest episode of Hello! Project Station it was announced that S/mileage will be going through major changes. A 3rd generation of members wil be picked from the Hello Pro Kenshuusei, and announced on October 4, 2014. They will also be picking a new name suggested by the public, though there aren't further details on that yet.

Apparently the 3rd generation was recommended by the remaining 1st generation members, to relieve worries that the group as a whole might disband whenever the remaining original members graduate.

S/mileage made their major debut for more than 4 years and a half.

We began as 4 members but on 2011 Ogawa and Maeda successively graduated and the group had to surpass a crisis.
During this crisis 2nd generation members have been added and 6 members composed the group since then. We, as 6 members, had to overcome many things and this year, we have been able to successfully perform at the Budokan, a dream for us.
For S/mileage, it was something really big and we have been able to get more self-confidence by ourselves.

We feel really gratitude towards the 4 members of the 2nd generation.
With the successful Budokan's live, we have reached the point of thinking that S/mileage can do things bigger and bigger.
Then during some habitual discussion with the 2nd generation, we sometimes felt anxiety from them about what will happen to the group if we, the original members, would graduate from S/mileage.
We discussed with our staff, and we will add members from Hello! Pro Kenshuusei. We think that adding new members would be a good stimulus for everyone.
With this new group' start, our name will change as well. We are currently taking applications for this new name.
It was "the first chapter" of S/mileage until now. We think that with the new group's name, we, as 6 members plus the new members will start "the second chapter".
To be able to do what we couldn't do until now, we would like to challenge new things in order to reach this potentiality.
Please continue to support us from now as well.

I first heard about this in the MM audition thread of all things . I am interested to see who ends up in the 3rd gen. I'm a little confused about the name change and its rushed since its not an open audition but just Kenshuusei.

 

I'm not sure what the name could be changed to. Are there going to be suggestions then voting by fans to decide a name.

I don't mind a 3rd gen for S/Mileage but the rushed, slapdash manner in which it's being conducted with a name change to be voted on by fans on top of it all sounds like the agency is just throwing things at the wall hoping something sticks... This almost smells of disbandment but without actually calling it that.

 

Also this whole thing about Ayacho and Maro coming up with this plan just reeks of everyone trying to cover up a plan from above. If it were that easy, maybe Ikuta should go up to the staff and suggest that she should be the ace of Morning Musume from now on. It worked for S/mileage apparently, maybe it'll work for MM as well...

Well of course, a decision even by members can only work if staff and the higher-ups are okay with it. Honestly I think they just don't bother that much with S/mileage. If something happened with MM, they'd be much more careful with it.

Personally, I like that they announced it this way. Every fan was able to get the message at the same time (not in an event where people had to wait for someone to tweet it) and there is not much wait. It would be much more horrible if they announced auditions and added the girls next year.

Does anyone know when they told the girls? Like from their hair/outfits? It would be pretty sad if one week they were happily working hard as members of S/mileage and the next week they were meeting their new group members. Hopefully, they got a little longer than that to prepare for it.

For me Dawa isn't the ace? I think it's Kanyon to begin with.

I think the same. Dawa is more like S/mileage's Sayumi, the face, the most popular member. But not really an ace. Kanon, I'm not sure about that. Maybe she is the ace.

And maybe because S/mileage does not have a real ace they're searching for one in the new members.

I don't think renaming the group is a good move tbh. S/mileage has been around for the past 5 years to change it now would seem weird . But I'm glad they're using KSS for 3rd generation though. I think it's a wonderful idea the 1st generation were all eggs ^^. 

 

A new name hmm I kinda want them to keep the Su part of their name so we can have Mobekisuju

^ LOL and get fans angry? No I'm fine with new members but I don't want them to change there name. It'll feel weird. I really like the name S/mileage a lot. They've been using that name for more than 5 years! So yeah....

Edit: I can see Hama-chan in this group. She fits the cute concept.

I feel like if they really want a new name they should just revamp the old one or keep part of it to completely change the name would be to like restart the whole group which after so many years would be weird to rename them.

 

I think 1 gen are trying to make sure that the group/2 gen will have what they need to survive/stand out when they decide to graduate.

 

 

Is Meimei the only non KSS member of the group? I cant remember.

I can't even think of a name that would suit them...I haven't been following them that long, only a couple of years, but I can't see the group with another name. Just...weird. =/

S/mileage got a little boring for me after the hate on second generation simmered down. I am glad to see them tossing a little gasoline on the flames. The KSS are all lovable, so I would welcome any of those talented girls into the group with sniggers and open arms. Too bad Rie left, I would have found her really interesting to see with Awkward Strawberry (Dawa and Kanon). I have no idea what I could suggest for a new name... However, I don't mind them having one. It's just a few more drops of gasoline to me, lol.

I expected there to be an announcement for the 3rd generation. S/mileage have simmered down with the fans finally accepting the 2nd gen and they've managed to do well with their recent singles. Their sound is getting more mature so everything just fits in for the group to revamp. Kanon and Ayaka aren't going to be here for long and I don't think the 2nd generation would be able to stand on their own as a 4-nin group. A 3rd generation will keep the momentum going in the group and I think a name change might be good for them. I know some people do not know about S/mileage existing so a name change may get people to look at them as if they are an all new idol group.

I swear this was so sudden... I expected S/m to have at least 2-3 more years before member changes or additions.

 

The KSS I want though is Hama chan and Manaka!
