Part two, same questions, different members:

When you heard that you were going to get a music video, how did you feel?

Morimoto Eri: All at once I was bursting with joy because I had been so looking forward to it, like, I finally get to sing (; ;)!!! I love singing more than anyone so I was filled with a feeling of I definitely, definitely want to sing on my own!!!

Asakawa Misaki: I've loved singing ever since I was little and I had always had the desire to become a singer, so I was super happy! I felt like Chubbiness had taken one step forward!!

Horikawa Ami: It was like a dream come true so I was happy, and I felt happy about the type of activities we were going advancing!

Tell me what you were thinking when you first heard your song.

Eri: It has cheerful and cute lyrics to make you happy, and I felt like we could get that across to the people who heard it! Manma de ii ya's lyrics have a really strong impact, I think it's an interesting song. It also mentions "round" and "squishy" in the lyrics so I thought it fit us!!

Misaki: It's cheerful and peppy and it got stuck in my head from the moment I first heard it (laughs). It makes you happy hearing it or singing it, and I personally listen to it when I'm feeling down and I pick right back up, a smile naturally comes to my face! I think it's a support song for pudgy girls! HAPPY song!

Ami: It's a happy and positive song that suits pudgy girls, it's an earworm and has a cute melody, I think!

Was there anything you were worried about with the music video?

Eri: The dance took me three days to memorize, so I was extremely worried and frantic in my mind about being able to do it. For the individual shots especially, a lot of people were watching me, and I was nervous, and worried about being able to keep a smile on my face. Also, I'm sweat a lot, so after one take I was drenched and I was worried about it showing up on camera (laughs). It was virtually identical to the artist MV shoots I've seen on TV, so I was nervous the whole time!

Misaki: I was worried about the reactions of everyone close to me. However, my parents and my friends and my relatives all had nice things to say, "Chubbiness is so cute!" "That song made me happy," they told me, and I was so happy all my worries disappeared!
Ami: Dancing and singing at the same time is still very difficult for me, so I realized just how much more vital it was to work towards building my strength up!

What did you put the most effort into when getting ready for the recording and the video shoot?

Eri: It was my first time putting something together, so I had no idea how to sing or project my voice or put emotions into it, so every day I thought about the best way to sing it, and so I kept singing every day! Until we shot the MV, the number one thing I did was look in the mirror! (laughs) Thinking about the angles you want to be shot from and cute poses, up until the moment I shot it, it was so important!!

Misaki: I listened to the song whenever I was at home, and I practiced singing and dancing a ton so that I wouldn't make any mistakes! Also, I ate a lot, slept a lot, exercised, and kept up my pudgy girl system!

Ami: I focused on singing so that the contents of the song would be expressed clearly, and we only had three days to rehearse, so we practiced the dance so that all 10 of us would be on the same page! Also, I really wanted to dance and show the appeal of pudgy girls, so I worked really hard on making my dance part as sharp as it could be!

What is something you want people to pay attention to in the Manma de ii ya! video?

Eri: There are close-up face shots and full-body shots, so I want to people to look at each of us and see where we're pudgiest!! In the scenes where we're all eating sweets together or when the doughnuts suddenly appear with us, I also want you to look at our sparkling eyes and smiles! I think we get across our love of food and how happy it makes us!!

Misaki: Of course it's the sweets scene! The pudgy girl feeling really comes out in the scenes with the doughnuts and in the opening when we're all jumping around over the candy, and it's chock-full of all of our thrilled smiles <3

Ami: The cute lyrics of this pudgy girl support song and the easy-to-remember dance! I want everyone to dance with us (^o^)!! Also, in the scene where we're eating candy in our tracksuits, the members really were eating and screaming and having fun (laughs), so I'd like everyone to look at all of the members' true faces (^o^)!!

How was your first live stage at 24-hour TV?

Eri: Honestly, before the show, because it was our first show on such a big stage with 24-hour TV, I was shaking with nervousness, but I was surprised by how friendly the audience was and how much fun performing was!! They smiled as they watched us, and they danced and waved their hands along with us, they were so nice and it made me incredibly happy. At first I was frantically trying to keep smiling while dancing and singing, but with each performance I was able to enjoy it more naturally! I have so much gratitude for all the staff members and our managers!!

Misaki: I was so nervous. But when I stood on stage, even though I was nervous, the audience was clapping along and smiling and looking at us so warmly, I almost started crying. I'm really happy we got to do a charity live and stand on a wonderful stage!

Ami: Everyone in Nagoya was so welcoming and supportive so that even someone as inexperienced as me put on a fun show! I was so happy then! Thank you!! Seeing everyone smiling along with us, I wanted keep doing things to make Japan! The world! Happy!!!

What sort of challenge do you want to undertake after this?

Eri: I want to do live events in each prefecture in Japan! Of course, at the same time I want to enjoy local gourmet food as I go around the country, so I want to make everyone Happy on a full stomach!! I was happiest at the last live, and I got to see the smiles of the audience right in front of me, so I want to do more events to make people Happy and see more smiles!!

Misaki: I want to do lots of live shows, but I also want to try acting in dramas or in a play! I want to be all-mighty, undertaking everything, so I'll work hard!

Ami: I want to go around singing Manma de ii ya! in lots of places so that plenty more people can know who Chubbiness is! We'll make you Happy (^o^)!!!

Finally, please give us a comment for the readers of Woman Insight.

Eri: I'm just a normal pudgy girl who loves to eat, but I have confidence that if you watch our music video it will make you Happy!! Please watch it!! I want to become more powerful and dynamic in making people happy, so please, look out for me!!

Misaki: Whenever you're feeling down please listen to Manma de ii ya! Chubbiness will heal you with our full-force smiles!

Ami: Chubbiness's first song Manma de ii ya! is a happy song that makes you hungry (^o^)! Our music video of us dancing for our lives was made just to suit us, so definitely watch it, please (^o^)! Let's dance and sing and have fun together~!! Please watch out for us!

Last segment:

When you heard that you were going to get a music video, how did you feel?

Ikeyama Chiaki: Hooraaaaaaaay!! I was honestly so happy! During the recording and the MV shoot, all I could think about was how much I wanted to unveil all of it.

Nakazaki Erina: Finally!!!!! We're getting our own music video!!! I was so full of happiness I was about to cry!!

Shima Rika: I was so happy about us getting to do music, but at the same time, I was getting wild ideas about doing live shows and I was nervous!

Yaegashi Kotomi: It was beyond our wildest dreams to get to do a song, but really I just couldn't believe it (laughs), but I felt like I was turning into a new person, and I had so much excitement and joy.

Tell me what you were thinking when you first heard your song.

Chiaki: I thought it was an easy song to listen to, one that could pick people up at karaoke. It's also an addicting song that gets stuck in your head after just one listen!

Erina: When I first heard it I thought the lyrics were really original, and I hadn't heard such a fresh song that left an impression on me like that before. I thought it was a good song but after we finished recording it and I heard all 10 of our voices coming together, I thought it was an even better song! It was moving! Because this is our first song I think this will be a first impression of Chubbiness for a lot of people, so it's definitely a song that is good and represents us in a way I have confidence in! I can say that about it.

Rika: It's a cheerful song full of energy, and it's perfect for pudgy girls~, so I got happy while listening to it.

Kotomi: The melody sticks in your head, and there are a lot of current trendy words in it like "macaron" and "wktk" so I thought it was a really fun and cute song!

Was there anything you were worried about with the music video?

Chiaki: I was worried about what sort of reaction people would have when they listened to the song!

Erina: Everything was a first for me, I didn't know how to do anything, so I was worried about making a good video that would make people happy and smile when they watched it.

Rika: I figured if the 10 members of Chubbiness put their strength together, we'd definitely show people the appeal of pudgy girls, so I wasn't really worried at all!

Kotomi: I was nervous because it was our first creation as the 10 members of Chubbiness who had never met each other before the pudgy girl audition!

What did you put the most effort into when getting ready for the recording and the video shoot?

Chiaki: I'm not particularly good at dancing, so I broke it up into parts and practiced over and over again the parts I had trouble with so that I wouldn't lag behind because I was focusing too much on those sections. I also got the good dancers in the group to teach me the more complex parts of the dance, so I did my best to create a perfect product!

Erina: Instead of going into recording trying to sing the song perfectly, I focused on trying to sing the song in my own way to match the lyrics, so I prepared by reading the lyrics over and over and understanding how they related to me. For the video I kept in mind expressions that suited the lyrics, too. My parts are "Kodou ga hayaku naru," ["My heartbeat gets faster"] and "Ase ga mune wo tsutau," ["Sweat rolls down my chest"] and those are pretty painful and sad lyrics, and it was difficult to try and match my expressions to those emotions while dancing, so it was tough. Even now I'm doing intensive training every day to put out better expressions.

Rika: For the recording I decided to go in and sing with energy, just as I am. For the MV of course I practiced the dance, but I also worked really hard on improving my skin and hair and such!

Kotomi: I worked a lot with image training! I focused on how I looked while I was recording, and I tried thinking up lots of expressions so that the viewers might have a fun time seeing how many different faces I put on! Oh, but really, the MV shoot was fun so a lot of those expressions came out naturally! (laughs)

What is something you want people to pay attention to in the Manma de ii ya! video?

Chiaki: My one and only solo part in the song is the line "I want you," so please don't miss it <3 lol

Erina: The members eating sweets and having fun!! I want people to pay attention to it because it shows us having the simplest of pleasures! But also be sure to check out the scenes for my solo parts, please! I want you to look forward to seeing better expressions from me!

Rika: All of the members bursting with smiles, and the upbeat lyrics! Especially "Gohoubi kiss sarete muneatsu," ["I got a congratulatory kiss that made me feel hot"] which I think really gets across the feeling of a girl swooning, so I love that part!

Kotomi: The parts where each of the members reveal their individual personalities! I want people to carefully watch the expressions and movements of each girl......! Especially their expressions for, "Anata no koto ga suki desu..." ["I like you..."] check them check them!!

How was your first live stage at 24-hour TV?

Chiaki: We went around to 6 places in two days, and had 8 performances! There were a lot of people getting to know us for the first time, but there were also people cheering and dancing with us, so I was really happy and able to have a lot of fun doing a live show! Actually during rehearsals I was super nervous but the audience was so friendly, they really helped me out! I'm thankful! I also got to show my family and friends how hard I'm working in my hometown of Nagoya so that made me really happy, too!

Erina: I was worried if we would ever get an invitation to perform anywhere, but it really was so much fun! I was full of worries and nervousness, but I had more fun than anything, so I want to do lots more lives! Even more so now.

Rika: When I heard that we were going to perform on 24-hour TV, I couldn't believe it but I was so happy!! To be honest I was so worried about it, but once I stood on stage all that stress just blew away, live shows are so much fun! I had a sudden feeling that I wanted to do even more of them!

Kotomi: It was our first performance, but even so the people watching were so welcoming and it made me think how fun lives are! It was a truly happy time!! By the way, there was a time LIVE when I was doing my spin part in the dance and put too much force in and tripped... afterwards in the dressing room I cried out of embarrassment, but the members and the managers, the people who watched left me comments of support in blog comments and such, I was so grateful!! So then I cried again (laughs).

What sort of challenge do you want to undertake after this?

Chiaki: I think it would be cool to do a tour in every prefecture in Japan! I want to get lots of people to know about Chubbiness and have us become a national group!

Erina: I want to get more songs for our live shows, but of course I also want Chubbiness to appear on variety shows and I want us all to try doing skits!

Rika: I want to do lives all over the country! Also, I want to try being a reporter or in a play, I want to produce a line of pajamas because I love them, and I just want to do a lot of things with all of the members!

Kotomi: I want to work on doing some martial arts with impact! I want to start boxing, and I think it'd be pretty cool for a pudgy girl to do a backflip...... so I want to add a little more spice to our performances!

Finally, please give us a comment for the readers of Woman Insight.

Chiaki: Watch Manma de ii ya and have fun seeing us smile and give it our all, I hope we can make a lot of people HAPPY...... <3 please take care of us!
Erina: The 10 of us will definitely! Give you all! And all of Japan a way to be happy, so please please watch out for Chubbiness from now on!! And please watch out for my fluffy, springy upper arms, too <3

Rika: Chubbiness is still inexperienced, but we eat a lot and smile a lot, and our Happy-ness is contagious!! I'd be really happy if Manma de ii ya can become more of a source of happiness for you every day! Please listen to it a lot and dance with us <3 Please take care of us!!

Kotomi: I will work as hard as I can to make Chubbiness a group that you'll remember when things get tough and become even a little happier as a result!!!

I saw the PV as I subscribe to Avex channel too .. the music is nice .. I like the music ...
but I am sorry .. I am Asian .. and they look grossly fat to me .. it's like they can crush me by sitting on me ..
hey .. I know what is right and wrong ..the 2 sides of my brain is fighting each other .. >.<
The most I can do is laugh at them for being funny .. but I can't generate any love for them .. sorry >.<
As artist, I can like them but as idols, I can't do it >.<

They're only kind of idols...? It's hard to explain. Like, they're written up in news reports as a chubby idol group, but in reality they don't really do anything that idols do. They don't actively release music and they only release it in digital format, and they're much more focused on being models for CanCam's plus-sized section and spokeswomen for a restaurant and doing charity work rather than promoting to wota (who generally feel the same as you do, offensive as it may be). They work very hard, though, and the music has been a lot of fun so far, so I don't see any issue with what they're doing.

I love these girls, and wish they were a formal idol group...

I believe that your size has nothing to do with how worthy you are as a human being, but you know how wota are, and basically the whole world. (Chubby=gross)

Thanks to that, it feels like they have a lot of western fans. Makes sense since we are more accepting to different body types.

Love the MV though. The quality looks better than their previous one. And it's hilarious.

TIL that "chubby" in Japan means... between 130 and 145 lbs (judging by the weights given on the first post) T__T As an Asian girl who is maybe a couple inches taller but 20 lbs heavier I feel a little sad knowing that now. ^_^""

The songs are cute though! Thanks for the interview translations, Lurkette!!

They're all so cute and talented! It looks like they're doing more idol activity as of late, which is good. I really love Dry Your Towel, a really cute, catchy song.

One question, I'm assuming the "Chu" t-shirts and the towels are official merch? Is there anywhere you can buy them from? I checked the official website, but all I found was a CD (and some beauty/diet stuff on the Chubbymart thing). Even though I only got into the group recently, their merchandise is soooooo cute! <3

Unfortunately the official merch is only available at their live shows, BUT the Chubbiness international Facebook fan page has giveaways every once in a while so that might be your best bet until Chubbiness starts selling it from the site. The girls have been more active lately and we've seen just a little more content on their youtube channel.
