She looks older and somewhat Perfume-ish.

That's probably because of the colors of her outfit and her haircut. Short and straight down, just like Perfume do (and also that seems to be a kind of "model" haircut).

 

Even though I like her a lot (and I liked her even more before she cut her hair... ) I somehow can't manage to follow solo artists. IS she doing well?

I think she's doing well. I mean, she's getting a lot of exposure and going to different festivals. But I'm not really sure how much that means to a solo artist's success since I'm not quite as familiar with it in Japan.

To be fair I have to admit I liked her singing and performances in SG more. Something does not click with me anymore since she went solo, cannot pinpoint it. But it feels like she lost something crucial on the way. Hope she will find that spark again, after all she was my favourite member the first time I saw the 2011 generation of SG.

I will be honest and admit that I follow her mainly because of her attractive and entertaining personality, not so much for her recent music. (...or her stage costumes, some of which are very nice, while others make me wonder what on earth she was thinking.) I like the DNA1980 songs very much, but those are all covers of established hit songs. Her debut album is very hit and miss for me. There are 3 or 4 songs that stand out, but every time I listen to the album I tend to quickly forget what I just listened to. I'm hoping she gets a more distinctive sound and better songwriting in the future.

Yeah, I somewhat feel the same way as what everyone's said here. If only she had something like the time she had with Karen Girl's where there were other 2 girls with her on the team. Too bad we couldn't get 3am since Airi and Ayaka went to get acting careers instead. 

 

Since her solo career started, the only songs I really like is Sora, Eien to Shunkan and Seventeen.

Ayami is releasing 2 live DVD's and will be having a concert "OWARI WA HAJIMARI" on Dec 27, also a new album in January 2015

I think the only thing missing from Ayami's stage show are a couple of backup dancers. Choreographed dance moves look so much better if they're done by two or more dancers in unison. Other than that, she puts on a great show.
