- In the AKB48 Group Draft she was the unanimous first choice of Ozaki Mitsuru (HKT48 theater manager), Anai Chihiro and Sashihara Rino.
- At the draft conference different businesses awarded 30,000 yen each in support for their favorite candidate.
  Mao was awarded by nine different businesses (including GREE and Ezaki Glico) which was more than any other candidate.
- Her oshimen is Sashihara Rino.

^ That's true. Her oshi is Sasshi and she said she wants to be as funny as her.

And she plays golf in one of the draft profile videos.

This is one of the interesting picks from the draft. HKT48 wanted a more mature member in terms of age, and got it, and knowing the variety power this group has - especially with Sasshii as leader in that department - it's promising that she wants to be as funny as Sasshii, plus also wants to do variety. You need a potential, and then you need the proper environment, and HKT48 is definitely such an environment.

Due to a busy work schedule I've not really kept up with the draft things too much(only a few videos here and there) but I'd been super curious about this girl that Sasshii spotted really early on, is it the same girl?
I can totally see why it would be. I've now watched all of her draft videos and can see why she'd fit well for Team H

Yeah this is the girl they spotted early on.

 

Sasshi regretted that she mentioned it at that time but I'm not sure why. Maybe she was afraid that she gave away who it was.

She said she wasn't sure if the girl was from Fukuoka. Maybe that meant they thought she was and that leaves only Mao and Akira.

They were very lucky that it didn't end up with multiple teams picking her, and that they got the pick they wanted

The reactions I've seen from HKT fans have been really positive too. It's like everyone was expecting her to be picked

I think her first stage appearance will most likely be as a kagami backdancer and I think that'd be totally fitting as that's where her "akogare no senpai" started out(and it's 3rd gen girls that currently perform there anyway)

I didn't really follow the "draft thing" ! So will she be a part of KKS or team H? I imagine that it will be the KKS, because team H is complete no?

Team H only got 15 members at the moment and if all goes well she'll be the 16th member.

 

Sasshi said she'll train with the 3rd generation kenkyuusei though.

It's exactly because of the KKS that they only picked one draftee.

im sure the 1st gen kks would go to team k4 after its announced which should be anytime now.

 

Just happy Mao got picked as i was rooting for her to be in HKT48 since start

Mao made her debut at an HKT handshake event today. She shared a lane with Sasshi and Jiina.

 

Sadly I haven't found any photos from their lane but she also took part in the some of the live performances and MC.
