I agree, she's beautiful. But I wish they'd give her a new hairstyle. Have you seem the pictures that appear over the forum with every page? The ones from Momusu (that are from their 15 album) show her with straight hair and it really dilutes her appeal. Also, remember those recent pictures with twintails? She looked gorgeous! They need to push her and give her a makeover to raise the chances of her getting more fans.

I've been thinking for a while that they've been trying to play up the whole, "hey, see, doesn't she still look kind of like Sayumi, huh?" thing with her image. and I admit that I still see it, but that's just not her selling point. It could also just be that it's the style that she likes though, and she may be at least somewhat resistant to any changes that are suggested to her. Meanwhile, even at 17, she often seems like she fits a role of the perpetually-14 character. That will probably fade quickly after the 15th gen joins and inevitably has members that are younger than her, but time will tell if that encourages her to make any changes to her own appearance or character.

 

Five+ years from now if she's rivaling the tenures of current legends, we may be scoffing at the idea that Akane should have ever done anything different at all. She just hasn't had the same kind of opportunities to plant her flag in the past 4 years that members used to get within the same length of time in the group. The 9th and 10th gen managed to avoid that fate by having their generations defined by their personalities and specialties, while Sakura was basically anointed Utahime as early as her S/mileage audition. In Akane's own generation, Miki had her English and outsider appeal, Ogata had her social media history and unique quirky charm, Maria supplemented her Sayu love with the benefit of being a beloved KSS and baseball fanatic. Both Chisaki and Kaede had decent H!P tenures before joining MM even though their experiences getting into the group were quite different with their own turnabout stories. The only member with a similar story of being a young newbie KSS thrust into the group was Yokoyan, but she joined older than Akane and with a much more... visible personality.

 

Akane is a very funny and sweet person, but her personality isn't really the type that eats up very much oxygen from the room. Entering the group with her thing basically being "young newbie that loves Duu" is a nice starting position, but it requires a bit more of an external push for the trajectory to turn upwards from there. Those who have already been paying attention can see that personality waiting to be set loose on the world, but this could just be another instance of someone waiting in the background until seniority eventually forces them to the front. The affect her hairstyle and appearance has within that time will largely just be a function of when and how she makes it to the front if said features aren't the catalyst.
