That picture is just too cheek-pinchingly adorable.  Musubu is starting to lose some her awkward phase as well, so it wouldn't surprise me if she keeps getting quite a bit of individual promotion.

Just curious: when did you feel Musu had a awkward phase? I always think for someone as small and mascot-like, with a certain teddy bear cuteness to her, she always had tons of confidence and never faltered in her appearance ...

 

She looks amazing!!

 

But I have a problem with the pictures of these magazines - not the predictable boob poses though.  The motifs always look the same to me?! Perpetual summer - summer clothes, black dress, bikinis, summer uniform. Maria has been in this magazine so often, I feel like I've seen the complete arsenal of ideas the photographer has to offer lol....

The awkward phase I perceived was less with her confidence, personality, or even cuteness, and more with growing into her facial features and bone structure.  She was adorable all throughout, but it's like she's phasing between cute hamster into an adorable chipmunk.  I wasn't following the KSS as closely at that time, but it was probably at some point after Oheso, but nearer to when she joined Country Girls.  The most noticeable for me was probably around the time of Dou Datte Ii No.  Then again, she also had the mumps around that time, so that could also have just been coincidence.

^ Ah I see what you mean ... though I can't say I share your opinion ... Musu is incredibly consistent in her looks, I think. The difference to how she looked back as a KSS is not as jarring as it is with most other debutees who joined at a young age, I think. She will always look a bit chipmunk-like, if you want to call it that...that's simply how she looks. She just learned to work with what she got and is better at, uhm, 'adult expressions' (lol, if there is such a thing) now, in my opinion.

Yeah, I can't say I share the same opinion too. I've always followed her since the KSS days before she joined CG. This picture of her here since early 2014 (around the time of me following her) :

I struggled to find a good comparison since mascots usually makes me think of small animals and woodland creatures lol

My initial thought was chipmunk into squirrel, but changed it when I realized that might make it sound like I was implying she was getting thinner, which just wasn't really what I was going for.

 

That is a good point about expressions though.  It might be less about growing into her facial features and more about learning how to use them.  I may have just been misinterpreting her past attempts at adult expressions as occasional awkwardness.  Thinking about the expressions the group was using in Boogie Woogie Love and Dou Datte Ii No in particular, the timeline fits as well. (Although I mistakenly mentioned Boogie Woogie Love rather than Dou Datte Ii No in my previous post originally)

 

Her bout with the mumps only ever got one direct mention in this topic if memory serves, in early August 2016 when AngelAndz quoted the post about the news from the 2016 Summer Harocon thread.  There was a bit more discussion about it (and the relevant discussion of the need for vaccinations and herd immunity) over there, so that siphoned a lot of the conversation that may have otherwise happened here.

 

^Definitely cute. I don't see anything in that picture I would have considered awkward about her general appearance.  One could maybe make an argument about the loose fist pump thing, but a lot of H!P members do that as a matter of "cute pose" flavor, so that's not really on Funaki.

Ah, she's always struck me as a golden child, destined to great accomplishments. Even being in the same KSS gen. with Ruru didn't seem to phase her (my guess being she knew how naturally gifted she was). In this regard, she most reminds me of Aibon of all the girls who came after.

^Yeah, it makes me wish I payed attention to her right away when she joined KSS. I never looked into KSS till a lot of them started to debut into existing groups in a more frequent rate, so it made me realize I need to look at KSS more and see who has potential. And when I did pay attention to her, right after KF was created, she grew on me quickly. I was always thinking to myself how this girl hasn't had her debut yet and thinking all these precious months and years being wasted when she could be doing so much more. Well, she certainly is now doing a lot fun idol work nowadays and she still continues to be great at what she does.

I remember 20th KSS gen'S first full performance (ROCK Erotic) ...everyone expected to be amazed by Ruru which came true, but Funakki really held her own. 'Was that voice really that tiny, cute one?! Who'd have thought such a voice would come out of her.' ....it was a great moment . To me she was the single most well-rounded KSS I can remember since I follow the KSS. There were/are other really talented girls (Ruru, and now Yuhane) but Funakki had it all from the very start, in my opinion.

 

 

In a way I think *kick-ass* Angerme fits her image a lot better than *pure* Country Girls. It's a blessing she is part of both though. Now if only CG would be more active again... I certainly wouldn't complain about a double dose of Funakki and Yanamin
