Greetings!

Having a blast here in Japan and I was wondering how handshake events work?  I'm here until the 27th of July, so KFC will come out before I leave.  If I pick up a CD will there be enough time for me to go to a handshake event?  Or can I just buy a few handshake tickets at a ticket reseller and attend one before my trip ends?

If anybody could provide a link to a guide or a website on where, when, and who will be at the handshake event it would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Ketchup, here's an old but still good post from HoneyRoastedPeanuts on it:

There's two kinds of handshake events.

Zenkoku
  • Tickets come with limited first press.
  • Held all over the country (Nagoya, Kobe, Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Saitama, Hokkaido, etc...).
  • Participating members get announced only a few days prior to the event. Mostly about 20-25 members are there.
  • Handshakes are very quick. The girls are lined up at a table and all you do is pass them. There's more than one girl in a line.
  • A mini live is usually part of the program.
Kobetsu (or "Dai-akushukai")
  • Tickets come with the theater editions.
  • Held at Makuhari Messe or Tokyo Big Sight; all members of AKB and sister groups are there.
  • There is a number of time slots for each girl and you have apply for those over at Chara Ani. If you win, you know exactly that you will (for example:) handshake Yukirin between one and two thirty on October 21st.
  • Applications for the theater edition start about a month before release date. The actual events are later. For Gingham Check, applications started on July 17th, the single was released yesterday, and the handshake events are on 10/21, 11/10 and 12/01.
  • Handshakes are slightly longer. You enter a booth and shake hands with the girl that you got a ticket for.
  • No mini live.
  • There are no theater editions without tickets, so if you apply for 20 handshakes and only win 15, you get 15 theater editions on release day.

Basically, I think you're out of luck since the only one you would have a shot at is Zenkoku.  You can still get Limited Editions of KFC but the events are announced a few weeks ahead of time and I don't know if they'll have any.  Right after KFC is released they will be doing concerts for 4 days at Tokyo Dome until the 25th.

If you want though there is always the theater?  They have performances there every day if you apply about a week ahead of time.  You could also try Anta, Dare.  All you have to do for that is line up outside the akb48 cafe on any weekday at 4pm and they will give you a number.  They call out 50 numbers and those people get to go inside for the show.  It's pretty easy. :itadakimasu:\/

^ Wow, I didn't realize it was so easy to be a part of Anta, Dare? (assuming you're one of the 50 winners of course, heh). That's pretty awesome.

Thanks Drahzaar!  Never knew about Anta, Dare but there won't be any theater after tomorrow unfortunately.  Guess I'll have to settle for 4 dome concerts :D

I've seen ticket resellers selling handshake tickets though, so maybe I'll look into that!

wow .. ya ..
I didn't realise the procedure to get into Anta, Dare is so easy ...
I got a friend who got in recently .. I thought its some tough application process and didn't ask ...lol
Now I finally figure out why there are a big crowd of people queuing up outside the cafe at certain time .. thanks ... :)

as for the theater ...
They had change the ticketing system into a 48 group combined system ..
it does not have the option for foreigner to register ..
most people are using the underhand method by keying in the hotel address, friends address or just a totally fake address ...
which means you can only bid regular seats which is really hard to win and not the long distance one because they may verify the address ...
so far .. I haven't hear of anyone who tried and won since the new system ... if there anyone that manage to beat the system yet?

For super long distance .. the selection and instruction is on the AKB48 site ..
but I do not think they are actually reading your application ..
because I realise when I was there before the new system .. there wasn't a super long distance queue when they organise up the fans to go into the theater ..
I heard the argument that they are queue in the regular queue ... but in such a small place with so few people .. ain't it easy to spot a foreigner ...
as at now .. I haven't heard of anyone winning super long distance for a long time ... so have one heard any ?

as for Ketchup ...
from what i know .. ya drahzaar is right ...Zenkoku is the only option ...
For AKB48 .. you should be able to find a shop selling the ticket out at overprice rate in Akihabara ..
For AKB48 these ticket usually come in 2 types and I still haven't figure out the difference ... so be careful
for the sister group .. chances is .. you can still get the ticket in the limited version single which should be still on sales ...
that's why sister group tend to sell better after the first week than AKB48 ...
you just got to check the different group site for the news on when and where they are going to do it and get the relevant tickets ..

that's all i know ... but I could be wrong as 48 group are ever changing though ...
