Yes, the latest batch. Her and the other 15th gen girls had their debut on 9th of June this year, at the AKB48 theater. She was also part of the 48G RS Budokan concert.

 

She's a very nice performer, as she's full of joy and energy.

She has participated.

 

As she is a research student / kenkyuusei she participated in the qualifier round that took place not so long ago, for AKB48's kenkyuusei girls. She lost and will not be at the main Janken event at the Budokan

Apparently Mion did some trending on Twitter as her film aired during primetime,  a film of when she was 9 years old and acted as the daughter of the protagonist. Film: Unfair.

Yeah, she has had quite some acting portfolio right there. I haven't seen any of her films (/dramas?) but there is some range of varied facial expressions going on there in those pictures. Let's see some single drama tie-in acting action, please.

As far as potential for that goes, she's in a very good position. Her and Naanya are the two most popular girls from 15th gen and it's not slowing down either. If they keep up the work in the theater and in events, they'll do well.

 

But it's funny actually: A lot of (at the time) new girls in AKB48 seem to have a very good momentum. They're kenkyuusei girls, and they're fresh. The fans like them and follow them, but all too often with far too many of them, as soon as they get promoted, they lose that momentum. It's not because they somehow got boring or worse, but it just stops. However, with each generation of girls, there's only a couple that seems to manage to get super popular, the rest falls to mid/low status. With now the new Team 4, and the Three Musketeers (Naachan, Mikichan, and Kojimako), I would bet my money that one or more of them will be the girls to join senbatsu from this Team 4 in a near future. 

 

Naanya and Miion have that chance if they can keep up their momentum all the way to promotion and not be dropped by either management or fans at that point either. 

 

I don't think either will be promoted this soon however. So draft girls will probably join a team before them.

I have been wondering about this a little. Maybe these promotions from KKS members to Teams have to do with handshake tickets sold which makes management believe said members have potential to become more popular. But the fact is that fans are not gonna drop their favorites that easily. Compared to other KKS some members may rise among the rest and look like they will own the world, but once part of a Team, it will take more than their own efforts to get more fans, it may take other members' screw ups or graduations to lose fans, and then we can have stray fans looking for a new member to support.

 

It is about the movement of fans behind members, and if one thing we have been shown is that rankings are relatively static in AKB. Of course, there are also the upsets that surprise us, and the occasional members gaining a lot of votes.

 

Still I think the new members who have it easier to get fan votes are AKB KKS members and pioneer members in new sister groups which have a lot of spotlight.
