I'm guessing because teams don't want to be limited to working on one project so much and would rather be able to quickly go to the next one.
I'm guessing that's why recently there's been more short anime being aired.
And some anime it's much easier to fit that 12-24 episode range.
Something like SAO can be split into definite arcs without causing problems to the next one (or I presume, I've only watched season 1).
Therefore, it can nicely fit into 24 episodes.

SAO shouldn't stay like this. The anime is causing a lot of haters to emerge and is not making the novel justice.

Not exactly. As an SAO fan, I do understand why some of them hate it. If I didn't read the novel, I might have disliked it too. As I said the anime is not doing the novel enough justice. Of course maybe not hate but just, meh instead.
Of course there's those illogical haters who hate just for the sake of hating lol.

Alicization Arc has a manga now.... and so far it's boring! Why did they mindwipe Kirito?

Because feminists were saying Kirito hogged the damn limelight.
Nah I'm joking. Not sure the real reason. But maybe they just wanted to shift focus from Kirito to Asuna and Alice.
