The 20th Anniversary After Party (actually the promotional event for the H!P All-stars single release) was this weekend at the Makuhari Messe.......right next door to the Marine's stadium where her beloved Nippon Ham Fighters were playing the Chiba Lotte Marines. I wonder if she had a chance to get away from the event an go see them.......

On the 16th, the work schedules allowed Golden Eagles fans Ayumin and Rikako to go to the Tokyo Dome to see their Eagles take on the Fighters. They took Odachii, Fukuchan and the two new Angerme members Haruka and Reira with them.

It turns out Maria went too, except she bought a ticket at the box office in order to sit in the Fighters cheering section, she refused to sit with her mates cheering for the Eagles.

Edit: Haruka Ota, who is from Sapporo, said in her blog she would have preferred to sit in the Fighters section. Maria should hook up with her next time she goes to a game.

  That's great.  My understanding of Japanese baseball is that they have segregated sections for each fan base, and you're not allowed to wear the opposing team's gear in each section.  Maria did what any true baseball fan would do.

Yes, Japanese baseball crowds are much different than American crowds. Devoted fans sit in cheering sections, know all the chants and songs. What I find funny is that Maria's love for the Fighters is so great she would rather leave her H!P mates to go sit with Fighters fans!

We didn't get a lot of it, but Maria's solo dancing in the last half of the Jinsei Blues PV was really tight and impressive. I hope we'll get to see some offshot footage from when they recorded the dancing scenes for Maria and Ayumi.

Am I seeing things or does she look like she is about to take over the group?

 

I always found her to be just OK, but lately, her confidence seems to be through the roof and she is sticking out (positively) a whole lot more than she used to. I'm even looking past the main girls, to find her, in their performances.

 

What's going on?

 

I predict she gets a main part in the next single.

oh saw this which was taken earlier in the year I think ..
She was singing with girls who are lead singer level in their groups and obviously better than her ..
I think she held herself quite well and she really show improvement in her singing ..
But I doubt she will ever be a lead singer in MM'19 but I will be happy with a few good lines

I just figured out why the Nissay promotion just kicked off for this year. It turns out that the Central League (Se-ca) and the Pacific League (Pa-ca) have just begun inter-league play. It's always a good thing when a sponsor thinks a promotion is good enough to continue it and who better than baseball-loving Maria to be the one doing the gig?

The way I see it, she is not next in line for big parts. Those will go to Chisaki and Miki (besides the main girls). Even Sou Janai, which is supposed to be her song, she doesn't sing main parts of it, and it's mostly in the verses. Like that supposed double center with Miki and Masaki in Ima Sugu. Those were also fake centers (Miki and Maria). 

 

I wish Maria had a bit better voice, so she would be given lines. It's been too long and people tend to say she is important, but regarding lines, she barely gets any.

She has a lot of charisma with the good fortune of also being extremely photogenic, so she'll probably be given visual representation proportional to the amount of popularity she gains through her combined modeling and other media. She was almost always pushed as a visual member even before her popularity started catching up, so in some ways it seems kind of according to plan. Since her popularity does seem to be increasing though, I wouldn't doubt that we may see her becoming a bit more visible in promotional campaigns along with Chii or getting some more of the cool/sexy segments in future MVs to showcase in the CMs. As far as thumbnails go, she fills out a lens really well even if there are others in the group that still get a bit more of a vocal focus. If MM has taught us anything though, it's that you don't necessarily have to be the best singer to pick up a lot of popularity after you've been in the group enough years to accumulate exposure with increasing seniority.

 

While I do believe that she's still vocally competent enough that the comparison doesn't really need to be made, she already inherits some of Sayu's lines, and if she is treated anything like a mixture of Sayu+Koharu in the future to the same extent that it seems like she's being established at present, she wouldn't need to improve vocally by any significant measure to do so. She's always wanted to take a walk in Sayu's heels, but simultaneously wanted to prove herself as her own person. For all of the past comparisons that could be made right now, there's a good chance that she'll be the point of comparison that we use for future members if she continues with that success.
