Request Hour Day 1 thoughts:

Wow, so many of the older top AKB singles have already been ranked in at 76~100. I thought Kaze ga Fuiteiru would be a little higher than that for obvious reasons, but oh well. I expected River and Beginner being on the low end, and certainly enough it did come in low, which stinks. I hope Oogoe Diamond shows up higher (or at all) in the next rounds. I guess tomorrow's going to be filled with SKE and NMB singles, as well as popular AKB stage songs and older singles/couplings. Looking forward to more NMB (hopefully) and Bird. Oh, and the Atarimae Taisou corner and Undameshi corners were pretty funny. Good intermission between songs. The AKB team battle's first round match wasn't interesting so I went for a drive and bought a burger instead. I hope they have better challenges tomorrow and the two days onward.

All in all, it was a good day, and messing with my already screwed-up sleeping habit was worth it (though I did miss out on most of Yamasato's ramblings regarding the rankings, meh, who cares about him anyway.)

Nope, I read other akb forums so I'm not just speaking my own opinion. Yeah I follow team 4 the most of any team so I've seen them improve. Juri is especially better on shows. Not really sure what else there is to be said here.

Well, you're free to share your opinion, but if it looks like bashing to me, I'll be there to bite back. Fellow fan or not.

To be fair, I did say in my last post regarding this, that I would rewatch the unit matsuri, and I so did. And I have to reconclude that it wasn't a bad performance or anything by Juri. Compared to others, yes sure, she may be "cold" or "dull", but it was better than what's been done before.

At any rate, I hope we can share opinions and experiences without having to get too offended if someone dislikes a performance or similar, of a member one likes.
...that aside,

I was pleased with Day 1 of Request Hour. 4 big singles fell hard, and while this in itself is rather peculiar, what's more is that it makes the remaining days somewhat more interesting (although of course there's 75 more songs to come, so plenty to choose from).

Sasae's drop and its performance was ....different. So many original members gone... And then the closeup of Sayaka turning around, with a big tear running down her cheek...

The skits were quite funny and I like how they add these things. Looking forward to more tomorrow

Kaze wa Fuiteiru was one of my favorites songs dunno wtf happened there. Now people are even saying things like "i hope Hashire Penguin isn't in day 2!" lol. I feel Hashire is definite top 10 though, gotta be top 5 actually. The drama, best RH yet.

Funny you'd say that because I was a fan of Goto Maki from the Love Machine days until Suppin to Namida.

There's a fine line between criticism and flat out derogatory statements. The main difference between them is that criticism has a counterpoint to it like the word "but/however" to balance things out; a negative and a positive. Your first reply had no balancing side to it at all and looked like a derogatory statement, which stuck out to me as simply a diss towards Takahashi.

Your second response however, was much better, which is why I let you off the hook.

Two days in a row for Watashi wa Sora ni Sundeitara and Kirigirisujin. I appreciate their promotion of these songs, but they could've performed something else instead of having them done two days straight (unless the songs they were thinking of performing were actually in the 1~75 list already). Having the song performed one too many times can have a negative effect on the sales and popularity of the song (like what happened to Rising Sun by EXILE towards the end of 2012, though that's a pretty large-scale case).

They could've also just performed songs from yesterday but with another shuffle of members instead, or have fun by having Shinoda Mariko sing Mujin-eki again, duets for solo songs, etc. But oh well.

I'm surprised that River, Beginner, and Ponytail are so low (maybe 'cause they're some of my favourites ). I guess there's a lot of competition among songs this year, especially since SKE and NMB are getting more popular and have been putting out a lot of great songs. Like everyone else, I do hope Hashire Penguin makes it to the top 10 at least. It's an awesome song and (ex-)Team 4 always does such a good job of performing it. Especially Ranran.

^^ Regarding Wasamin's Moshimo Watashi, I can see how it's repetitive to perform the same song two nights in a row (she could have done enka Flying Get on the second night or something). But to be fair, she hasn't done a lot of tv promo for it yet so they're probably just trying to get it out there more.

I also wasn't surprised that Paruru replaced Acchan on most songs but I liked that they didn't make her the only one that did, Mayuyu and Riichan did as well.

Really liked how 支え was performed too.

That would have been a very good idea. And would not have required anything at all besides Iwasa's singing. Maybe it's actually up on the list, and that's why they didn't let her sing it or something?

But yes, AKS should have done better with promoting her, as going into music-focused talkshows like Shin Domoto Kyoudai, or golden time variety TV shows would've made a whole lot more people take notice of her. After all, she did win a rookie award (they could've used this as a small tag-line to get more people to watch her). Sad thing is that we probably won't see these things happen because AKS is more interested in the groups than soloists. Which sort of makes sense.

There was a full hour of pre-show talks before the Unit Matsuri, and there was one too for the first day of the Request Hour.

Yamasato mentioned the names of the people that would be doing the other 3 days, but I can't remember who they were except for Kuro-chan, that fat high-pitched bald-headed geinin that creeps the hell out of people.

Not really, I thought Juri's dancing was the worst in this and half the time she hardly looks like she's lip-synching. I may be biased towards the ever under-appreciated nagao who was great but it looked like same old juri to me.

What does this look like to you? Because to me, this looks like a Nagao fan who had a personal agenda against Takahashi.

edit: Watching the videos on youku now, Moeno, Suuchan, and Komorin did a really good job in Kataomoi no Taikakusen. Moeno is super cool, so of course she'd be excellent, but normally I think of Suuchan being genki and Komorin being...Komorin. But they were cool too! I really enjoyed it.

If you do end up wanting to watch them though, they're available at the AKB Official channel anyway, whenever AKS wants to post it (I saw the pre-show talk part for the Unit Matsuri uploaded while browsing the channel.

And yes, as it turns out Komori Mika is actually a good singer and performer when she's fired up (In the Waiting kouen performances, she was doing really well).

48 is not your typical small size group ...
You should cherish every performance and camera shot on the one you want to see ..
and this is even more so if the one you want to see is not a super big senbatsu ..

come on .. today Ryoochan came on after Tenshi no shippo for MC and didn't say a word .. but I love it ..because I get to see her ..
and on encore ... I get to see a good deal of shots on Aamin ... that really made my day ... I would have buy the cameraman a drink ..lol
Most of the time .. I am just happy to see them perform ... I don't have time to examine their performance ...

@Tsurugi_ken : You took it pretty hard, and what I said sounded harsh I know. Of course changing a word or two would have helped. I thought your original post was a little out there so I went out there with my response as well and that's what happened. I like Juri the way she is, I love her dead eyes. She started off kinda real quiet but is getting better fastt. So ok, I thought her performance was "less crisp." It doesn't matter, I mean she'll make her way into senbatsu either way, . Of the current new girls pushed she's my top by a good margin.
kuroi tenshi was my favorite there, I'll watch it a lot. It's not just yagi, it's because 2 of my top were in it and there are dead eyes. So yeah...

well on the topic of Juri, I don't know what was going on with the camera dude during Tsugi no Season but he was spazzing out big time. I didn't think she got camera justice AT ALL considering I remember her most from the pv...
