This thread is for discussion pertaining to the various female idol units under Stardust Promotions and all regional Stardust offices, especially the collective now known as Stardust Planet, formerly known as 3B Junior.
In 2017, it was announced that the collective of female idol groups under Stardust Promotions would now be referred to as "Stardust Planet," which helps alleviate the confusion between 3BJr. as a collective and 3BJr. as a group.
Originally, 3BJr referred to the collective female idol units under Stardust, with the name standing for the division within the agency and the subdivision, with the Jr added to denote the female idols. While a few groups went on to greater prominence with individual record contracts and promotional opportunities, a large number of girls remained as part of a general group of girls shuffled into different units. This has been shuffled a few times, with different units appearing and disbanding, often with several of the same girls as a part of all of them. In 2014, a single was released under the name 3BJr, and it included major units Momoiro Clover Z, Shiritsu Ebisu Chuugaku, Team Syachihoko, and Tacoyaki Rainbow, as well as many of the girls under the general 3BJr (at the time split into units KAGAJO☆4S, Team Hotaru Ika, and Team Daioh Ika). This marked the start of the annual "Ore no Fujii" concerts, held in the beginning of each year, that showcase all of the different female units under Section 3. Here, it was announced that anyone who had graduated high school would also graduate from 3BJr. As a result, not all groups continue to participate in "Ore no Fujii," which changes formats every year.
Modern 3BJr refers to only that group of girls not in the more high-profile groups (or, it seems, those not attached to managers who seek to form their own groups as a primary artist under their guidance), and these members are divided into 5 units and one solo member. As the current incarnation, they have released two singles, "Fragile Stars/Yuuki no Silhouette" and "Stardust Fantasia," and one album, "3B Junior First Album," which features tracks from each of the units in addition to tracks from the entirety of 3BJr. Generally, these releases have been only available at live events and have been packaged by the members themselves, as 3BJr has no full record deal and funding seems to go primarily towards training rather than promotional tools. As such, 3BJr gives the impression of being indie or DIY idols, but with the polish of major label idols.
