I feel like complete noob by asking this kind of question, but have they ever published official vote count for girls who did not rank?

As far as I know, no they haven't. I think it would be suicidal for the girl who finds out she is at the bottom of 200+ girls. (I might be exaggerating, but it will still be detrimental to the mental health of those girls.)

More random stuff just cause I'm a numbers kinda guy...

Last year if a member made it into UG they were in the top 14.5 - 26%, in senbatsu 13.8 - 8.5%, media senbatsu 5.2 - 7.8%, kami7 4.6% of the 48 family.

This year if a member made it into FG they were in the top 20.6 - 27%, NG 13.9 - 20.2%, UG 7.1 - 13.5%, senbatsu 3.3 - 6.7%, kami7 2.9% of the 48 family.

Last year my oshimen Moeno was 31st, 20.4% so top 20% of the 48 family and this year 55th, though a 24 rank drop, still in the top 23% of members.

So members who dropped or fans of them should feel too bad since they are around the same rank in popularity in respects to the number of members now in the family. But on the other hand fans of say Nakayan, Chiichan or Milky should be extremely happy for placing high when not being ranked last year.

I wish western views on Japan would move past the whole "LOL weird Japan!" thing. :/

Unfortunately Western media is far too stuck on that.

Usually this is the same for people in the West that knows zero about Japanese history, culture, society and entertainment as well.

Of course there's many things in Japan that is weird or quirky, but there's those things in the country I come from too, as there is with other countries as well.

It is indeed tiresome to see the same repeated nonsense over and over again, but what can you do? Most people are very lazy and are comfortable with repeating unfounded assumptions and exaggerated lies instead of finding out the facts.

Oh well...

What I usually tell my friends when they are like "Japan is so strange, look at this", is that of course there are weird things in country, that is the case with any country, and Japan having over 21 times the population of my country, of course there will be a lot more strange things you can find.

I too find it obnoxious that the western media only focus on weird thing in Japan, and I really don't know why they do it. Well it must be because it is popular...

Also, one more thing I heavily dislike today, is the idea that the world must become "one", as in culture and behaviour etc. I am quite fond of diversity, and cultural uniqueness, expressions that shows this. We can all work together quite fine without everything having to become the same.

"X country is so weird, why can't they be more like us", "Y country is so backwards, we must help them become more like us", "Z country must partake in the same things we find interesting." etc.

And here I am not of course pointing towards how we have foreign aid and such things, this is of course beneficial. But the desire the Western world have to make other countries conform to their standards of what is good and bad, I don't quite enjoy that.

Well, whatever the case of the above, here are some higher quality lineup photos taken backstage at the election, didn't see them previously here:

I've never heard of BGR.com so I would hardly qualify them as being relevant or significant enough to be considered western media. From the Washington DC concert or the CNN/BBC (forgot which exactly) stories on AKB, I don't think either tried to ridicule AKB.

Plus, you have to remember that even if western media finds the whole of AKB weird, don't forget a lot of that sentiment is shared within Japan as well. I just ignore that kind of talk so I'm never bothered by it.

@ Krusha: Do you have a HQ pic of the senbatsu, perhaps backstage too? I really can't wait to see backstage coverage of this event.

Nice pictures!

I guess there's none like that for the senbatsu because it would have been incomplete with the too young girl(s) missing. Just a wild guess, of course. :)

I figured if they took the photo anywhere it would have been backstage. I guess if they took a pic with Jurina in it, it would still qualify for working past the allowed time.

Aki-cha still looks so mad in that picture. XD Yuka-chan looks happy and gorgeous, the SKE girls all look thrilled, and then you have Aki-cha center, as miserable as I've ever seen her. But, anyways, all the photos are nice. Thanks for posting them, Krusha.
(Though I can't believe that BBQ is the same age as me. She looks smaller and younger than half the girls there!)

according to AKBmatome, there was an issue of some sort magazine that had everyone's comments after the election. I'll try and translate them for ya but I can't today because I'm busy.
