I didn't really follow AKB48, but I was a little surprised to read a news story about AKB48 in a local online newspaper (German): http://www.20min.ch/...olitik-12603873
I'm bored while waiting for a download to finish lol, so i'll toss in a quick translation:
Pictures of new Stars dominated the Japanese Newspapers on Thursday. AKB48 is a phenomenon of Japanese Popculture, the Group is based on a pool of approx 90 Girls who get a varying degree of attention (that bit isn't really exact, but doesn't translate too well sorry).
Originally the Girls where chosen in auditions by Aki-P, but after protests from the Fans they introduced "democracy". The concept is unbelievably clever, in order to vote you had to buy the latest single, apparently some fans bought multiple copies to give their oshi a boost.
After that it drifts off a bit into crazy land... or maybe not lol, supposedly the attraction of the fans having a say in what happens is based on young people being pissed off about the old men running politics and that they can't ever change anything there, so they try to change AKB instead, kind of as a Japanese version of the American Dream.
the article is by the way supposedly based on some stuff said by Satoshi Hamano, so they didn't blow the chance they had to write something more interesting on their own lol.

Week 2 : 128,604
Week 3 : 35,550

Week 5 : 6,612
Week 6 : 4,381
Total : 1,801,779
wow ... it pass the 1.8 million mark ..
just too bad that they will need about 46K more to beat SPEED white Love ..
but still .. its great..

that would be roughly 1700 each week until the end of the year, which indeed would be a bit hard to achieve, although maybe we shouldn't rule out the possibility of Manatsu no Sells Good beating Speed, I mean just look at how well the NMB and SKE singles from back in may are still doing (each still selling over 6k in the last week).

He don't want the to peak to the point that there is nothing left to achieve ..
when that day comes .. the only way to go is down ...
So he is just slowing it down and maybe beat that in another year ...
if he really want to beat it .. he can just release a 50K non 1st press limited edition .. then the record is theirs ..
guess he want to do it fair and square too ...lol

(keep in mind that Oricon doesn't record sales of all shops hence the difference in numbers, I guess. Or the retailers still have huge stocks for the months to come )

But, these 200k are from Theatre Editions. TE has about 5 tracks, so it's not counted by Oricon.
