First event finished and waiting for the 2nd one but wow, she has improved a lot in terms of singing (told her afterwards as well). She was super nervous during the first song but steadily got very good.

She did the kanji challenge last year as well, lol. She kept pushing the entire frikkin' table away from the balloon and just stopped writing when it seems it would pop. 1st event Goro went to put one of the kanji on the board behind the balloon and exactly that moment it blew up right behind his head, hahaha. Also, Ruru had a BD message in the first event, but she was actually on the 1st floor watching together with Yamaki on the 2nd one. It felt a bit weird seeing Risa appear on stage, she definitely saw me lol. I don't mind with Risa though since she's mature and probably even expects Country girls fans to be at JJ events . As long as she doesn't tell Chii. Akari made an offhand comment about "It's a good thing we both have the same image color, huh!" to the audience while carefully scanning our faces. At the end she said Glass no Pumps was suggested by her manager, but she felt it was way too difficult for her after all. Yeah, it wasn't a good idea for it to be the first song either because during the 1st event in particular she was still nervous. She didn't have a ponytail but she was wearing the tight jeans...which she made very obvious in Glass no Pumps -.-;;. Yamaki actually said since she is the 'sexy' representative she'll have to work hard to beat Akari and Akari just responded with "Er....I'll lose". I actually completely changed my hairstyle in between events because I wanted to straighten my bangs but completely messed up and ended up just pulling it back, which caused some inquisitive 'Wait...what?" stares from Akari at the beginning of the 2nd event. During the event she also handed out signed possessions of her to random seat numbers and though it was mostly super standard stuff there was some cool stuff like a ring that her mother gave her.

She's slowly become one of my favorite voices in H!P. This group is so stacked vocally it's almost unfair

This seems to be an audience recording excerpt from her Birthday event last month. Was just browsing youtube and randomly came across it.

Not too bad. Ummm but why is she still getting Nakajima treatment (aka one line in verse and occasionally one line in chorus) when she is more like Chisato of Juice=Juice now? lol

 

Unlike Miyazaki, her vocal is decent now, I'd say. Judging by the clip, Uemura can't do vibrato yet, but then again, there are only like 2-3 H!P girls who can. She can sing and in/out of falsetto - or if you insist females don't have one, "head voice" - decently when singing live and there are only maybe 5-6 H!P girls who can do that, so that's something. Her vocal breaks down a bit towards the end, but that's common among H!P girls. 

 

If I didn't see the title, I'd have thought this was Oda Sakura singing as the muffled audience sound made Uemura sound like her - without the annoying vibrato-on-every-line thingy Oda does these days after copying it from Tanaka Reina

 

In Juice=Juice, she is probably the 2nd best singer now after Takagi - Miyamoto tends to be pitchy and Kanatomo has a bad technique. Perhaps the staff doesn't consider her as marketable as the other 3 as a singer and/or doesn't want to break the established pattern. 

 

I posted this about a year ago after randomly finding and listening to Uemura's audience recording. As audience recording is almost always in muffled/bad quality, it masks flaws (and good points). Suppose I could've been fooled into jumping the gun and declaring some stuff prematurely.

 

Now that official birthday event DVD (with proper clean up - EQing & compressing) is out and watchable, figured I would revisit this.

Guess the reason I considered Uemura to be J=J's 2nd best singer was for her potentials, more than anything. Evaluating again now, there are many rough patches, mixed with a few glimpse of potentials here and there. ...Not that any of J=J girl's solo singing performance currently is devoid of rough patches, even Takagi's. So she is still a bit raw, compare to Miyamoto or KanaTomo. It's the same reason why Suzuki is always the better singer than Chisato in C-ute, who is prone to making mistakes and vocal cracks, even though the latter has more oomph in her vocal (and vibrato). So in that aspect, guess she is probably still around T-3rd (or 4th since i rarely ever hear KanaTomo messing up). Welp, guess now that Danbara has joined, she may even be T-4th. Danbara definitely has one of the best, if not arguably the current H!P best tone on mid-range (i.e. typical verse-range), but her vocal tends to break down/get squeaky on high notes, so don't think she beats Takagi yet IMO. 

 

Anyway I can see/hear Uemura has more upside than those two (Miyamoto or KanaTomo). She seems to be able to belt out notes in a bit more proper way (i.e. not squeaky/nasally as all but 2-3 girls in current H!P tend to do) much more effortlessly than those two, however rough/unstable it can be at times. Due to their singing style (way too much idol-ish singing IMO, thus further limiting) and voice they are born with, those two girls have limited range. That is, some girls just have weak/thin and/or low range voice they are born with and those with strong/clear tone/quality are rare. And Uemura doesn't seem to have developed bad habits/style of singing that would limit her vocal as yet and remains raw/moldable. 

 

Now she may not get better than those two despite of her potentials. It's hard to get better while in a group and also I don't really sense that she is that ambitious/passionate on becoming a great singer, putting countless hours working on craft behind the scene. ...Not that it is something she has to do or anything.

That's an interesting take. I put her as a definite 5th with Sayubee/Ruru as 1st and 2nd (take your pick of the order) and Karin/Kanatomo as 3rd/4th (same). Although I admit Uemu has improved vastly, enough to claim that Yuka/Nanamin are the only weak links (and still not all that bad).
