Agree with zam, for a beginner, mic can be really intimidating, especially because it amplifies whatever you put out. On the technical side, the most frequent problem for a first timer with a mic usually to hold it steady in front of your mouth while moving heavily. I'm guessing this is the problem. It will be sorted though, eventually, by experience.

Good point. I've used a mic a lot while standing still. It would be pretty tough to hold one steady while dancing around if you're not used to it.

Mayb the mic I first held was an old mic, you know the ones that weighs like a brick
I guess modern mics are lighter as more light-weight materials are used.

^ I remember one of the microphone I used long time ago weighs like a kilo, and it was wired! (just how it felt, not like I actually weigh it.. And good thing I never actually need to hold them myself )
The Sennheiser they used nowadays should be around 400-500 gram (with battery) so they can still feel the weight, but it's light enough that it can easily move with the slightest pressure, so I guess it's pretty hard to balance it.
