I don't listen to any of the radio shows either, but it does feel kind of sad anyway.

Bumping this up for general H!P news.

H!P singles ranking on Oricon's 2020 Yearly Single Charts

#35 - KOKORO&KARADA / LOVEpedia / Ningen Kankei No way way - Morning Musume '20

#50 - Ishiki Takai Otome no Dilemma / Dakishimerarete Mitai - Tsubaki Factory

#79 - Pop Music / Suki tte Itte yo - Juice=Juice

#90 - Dansha-ISM / Ima Nanji? - Tsubaki Factory

#95 - Kagiriaru Moment / Mirror Mirror - ANGERME

https://www.oricon.c...rank/js/y/2020/

The BEYOOOOONDS album did not make it in this year's Top 100 Albums. Album competition this year is fiercer thanks to KPop and sales from last year's top albums.

I consider this one of HP's best year in terms of yearly charting songs, but the release cycle is slower this year with fewer releases, and some 2020 singles were beat by sales from 2019 idol groups such as Nogi and NMB.

Morning Musume '20's Junjou Evidence / Gyuusaretai Dake na no ni will count to the 2021 Yearly Chart, since Oricon cuts the charts in mid-December.

I'd be interested to see how Juice=Juice would've done if they hadn't had the unfortunate luck of releasing right around when the lockdowns were starting & nobody was especially prepared for remote promotions.

hello i am still procrastinating the aforementioned essay alluded to in my edits thread and i'm feeling risky so post some old h!p song recs! as apparent with my recent statuses i've been discovering old h!p songs (as in, songs released before 2007) recently and it's GOOD SHIT that i've been missing out on for so long so i might as well jump the shark and ask for recs from people who actually know the discography way better than me lol. not just songs, but albums too! anything released by h!p before 2007 is fair game i love music i love h!p i'm ready lol

songs i know (and love):

  • memory seishun no hikari - momusu
  • furusato - momusu (this is SO PRETTY i love it)
  • love machine - momusu
  • the peace! - momusu
  • as for one day - momusu
  • shabondama - momusu
  • roman ~my dear boy~ - momusu
  • the manpower!! - momusu
  • osaka koi no uta - momusu
  • sexy boy ~soyokaze ni yorisotte~ - momusu
  • gatamekira - taiyou to ciscomoon (ty ruru)
  • glass no pumps - goto maki (ty miyo)
  • anata nashide wa ikite yukenai - berryz kobo
  • love like crazy - nochiura natsumi (ty ruru x2)
  • goodbye natsuo - matsuura aya
  • miss love tantei - w (one of my favorite h!p songs ever I LOVE THIS SM)
  • robo kiss - w
  • special generation - berryz kobo (BANGER)
  • suki sugite baka mitai - def.diva
  • massara blue jeans - c-ute
  • ooki na ai de motenashite - c-ute
  • boom boom meccha maccho - gyaruru (ik this isn't actually h!p but it's close enough and i love this song)

albums i know (and love) (i might know individual songs from them but these are albums i've listened to in full jsyk lol)

  • club hello! trance remix - hello! project (yes i listened to this monstrosity in its entirety i love it unironically)
  • second morning - momusu (don't remember it that well tho since it was only once but it was good)

ok after writing this out i realized i have absolutely listened to more than 10 h!p songs released before 2007 but ik this is barely scratching the surface so pls send recs lol

(also also i didn't know where to post this, i was originally gonna dump it in the momusu thread but it's h!p so i put it here but also idk if that's right so uhh i can move it if needed?)

Have you gone through MM's B-sides? They have them as album collections for easy downloads, but there are definitely some gems in those and sometimes newer fans forget that they did, in fact, release B-sides consistently at one point.

Also, definitely not pre-2007, but I feel it's my duty to promote S/mileage at all opportunities. They also have excellent B-sides.

i've listened to a few but not really that many rip, forgot to list them lol but i've listened to fine emotion, love & pea~ce, nature is good, and dekkai uchuu ni ai ga aru (this one i found from the recent h!p new years concert and its sooo good it reminds me of nobishiro from biyo1st). they're so good, i always forget to listen to b-sides pretty much every time i download a single in general but i try my best since there's sooo many hidden gems lol. and yeah i wish they still released b-sides but rip

i love s/mileage!!! their first album always cheers me up, and tachiagirl and miniskirt postwomen are among my favorite h!p songs :'D they're so fun! i understand why they rebranded as anju but i'll always love their style as s/mileage hehe

Ahhh old H!P music is amazing as well, its great that you are looking into it.

Tanpopo songs, especially "Oujisama to Yuki no Yoru"

Berryz Koubou's "Gag 100kaibun Aishite Kudasai" and "Only You" by Zoku v-u-den are also personal favorites.

Koharu Kusumi's solo H!P stuff has a bit of a similar sound and vibe to early s/mileage by the way. It is very good.

Her MilkyWay and KiraPika units too for that matter.

I would suggest watching old concerts.

When I first joined the fandom the first concert I ever watched was Yossy's graduation concert.

Morning Musume Concert Tour 2007 Haru ~SEXY 8 Beat~

Then Kei-chan's

Morning Musume CONCERT TOUR 2003 Haru "NON STOP!"

Then Kaori's

Hello! Project 2005 Winter ~A HAPPY NEW POWER!~

Then Nacchi's

Hello! Project 2004 Winter ~C'MON! Dance World~

All great concerts!!!

And one of my favorites

rurupedia: I second the suggestion for old school concerts! I devoured whichever concerts I could get my hands on when I first started learning, and it introduced me to a ton of songs. Not just H!P concerts though, the individual groups too (I especially watched a bunch of Berryz and °C-ute when I was learning everything).

I definitely did way too much here and I'm going to apologize for it now (definitely repeating some suggestions above too), but I can't resist a good list making session (and I swear I did a condensing pass). I know you wanted just 2007 & back, but I did include some songs beyond that - not too crazy far beyond though (there are like 3 2011/2012s in there that never get performed anymore, I think everything else is from before that; they're also labeled so feel free to ignore them, haha).

Edit: I realized today I forgot to include a chunk, so if you've already seen it.. there's a little more now.

Don't forget to listen to morning musume first album, usotsuki anta it's such a gem and in wagamama you can hear Ishiguro Aya on action!.

usotsuki anta is SO good!!! i remember i watched this performance of it when i first heard about the song and was just blown away, it's so nice to listen to i love it

oujisama to yuki no yoru: the mv for this is so cute omg, the song is so pretty too! it's like nostalgic but not in the sense that i'm nostalgic for this specifically but more like, the vibe of the song? idk it's that kind of nostalgic where it makes u feel nostalgic lol

gag 100kaibun aishite kudasai: ahh this is the precure song they did!!! i heard it a while back (as in, one of the first berryz songs i heard when i was getting into h!p) bc precure lol and i love it so much. momo really caught my eye when i first watched this, shes so cute

only you: this kinda has anison vibes but also feels very pop punk in the chorus for some reason??? i really like it LOL. the guitar part in the background is really nice too. and i love risako's voice in this! it's a weird unit but they sound really good together actually

i'm really bad with watching concerts OTL but the sexy 8 beat concert's been on my (super way too long) list of concerts to watch for a while now, mostly because the sexy 8 beat album is one of my favorites and i noticed this concert bc of the title lol. the last one's also on my list since i've heard about it before

(cut)

oh i've actually heard a lot on that list before! some only like once or twice so i'll definitely give those a listen soon (i've been planning on downloading the rest of momusu's albums for a while so probably the songs that fall into the once or twice thing that are on the albums i'll get to first). along with the momusu stuff i've wanted to check out the discographies of the mm girls who went solo, specifically abe natsumi since i like her voice (furusato!!!!), but also goto maki bc glass no pumps is sooo good and also i'm in love with suppin to namida thanks to ruru. from this list i listened to sweet holic by abe natsumi and romantic ukare mode by fujimoto miki since they stood out to me at first glance on the list, and i really like them! sweet holic sounds completely different than i anticipated it to (the title reminded me of sweet devil by hachioji-p so i expected it to be like upbeat dance pop lol) but it's very soft and for some reason reminded me of karin's mirai to filament??? no clue why but i think it might be the melody or natsumi's vocals. but i really like it! as for romantic ukare mode, i've heard a lot about it so it seems to be pretty popular, and i had no clue what to expect on first listen but i definitely like it! it's very very tsunku lol, i like the uplifting positive vibe of the chorus and miki's voice is so pretty.

looking through the list more:

  • buono is SO good!!!! they're basically the first h!p group i've ever heard (thanks to shugo chara, which was my first anime and basically changed my life for that reason lol. i used to listen to co no mi chi all the time when i was like 9 or 10 years old so it means a lot to me; it's one of my favorite h!p songs too!) and i listen to them a lot <3 also noticed the other shugo chara units at the bottom of the list, and GOD i love those songs so much. school days is super nostalgic for me specifically but honestly every buono/egg/guardians song that was in shugo chara is really nostalgic so i love them all a lot. just listened to party time by guardians 4 since i haven't heard it but it's really fun too!
  • just decided to check out kiseki no kaori dance by matsuura aya since it stood out to me on the list, probably because i've only heard it like once thanks to yuhane's performance of it on solo fes, and ok wow that mv was a Ride. i've only seen like 2 other matsuura mvs and they were weird as hell too so i kinda expected that with this one LOL, from what i've seen/heard by her though (basically those other mvs, this, and goodbye natsuo because it's eurobeat and i love eurobeat) she has a really fun style and i love that a lot so i really need to check out more stuff by her. as for this song, it's really fun! i like the verses a lot specifically and she sounds really good on this. on my second listen now and i really love this actually

  • i've had the shuffle songs downloaded for a while now but only listened to a few of them, so i listened to some that stood out on the list, which were akai nikkichou, get up rapper, and chu natsu party. akai nikkichou..... LMAO that beginning monologue. i've heard about it before and kinda expected the ridiculousness of it but like, first listen, it was weird as well i love it. the rest of the song is actually much different than i expected, but it's so pretty, especially the chorus. get up rapper kinda reminded me of cinderella\complex by high-king (i think it's the beat?), i really like it! kago ai's voice on this is funny bc she has a very cute voice but also she tries to sound cool here, and it both works but also doesn't and i love it lol. my first impression with chu natsu party was that it reminded me of kyary pamyu pamyu purely based on the cover, but the song is very h!p. again mentioning kago, i think i really like her voice lol she has a very unique tone and it's really cute, i love it. as for the song, like i said it's very h!p but in the sense that this is one of those songs i would think of when i think of tsunku songs, like it's so his style specifically, and i love it

  • decided to listen to anataboshi since it stood out on the list mostly because i've been meaning to listen to it for a loooong time now, and honestly, i didn't expect any of that lol. is that a harmonica????? but oh my god i love this so much idek how to put it into words. suddenly i understand why this is so iconic, koharu is exactly the kind of magical girl i wanted to be when i was 9 and honestly i still do. this is such a bop omg i love it so much???? but yeah this is gonna live rent free in my brain for an indefinite amount of time and now i need to listen to literally everything released for kirarin revolution

there's a LOT on this list and i definitely wish i could listen to all of it, but even though i can't in one go (it'd take me all day lol) i'll definitely be referring to it when i check out older h!p stuff. thank u so so much for all of this, i really appreciate it!!! <333

ps: rurupedia, is not an old album, but i recommend you the "Rainbowx2" KSS album. I love it.

rainbowx2 is such a good album, i initally downloaded it just for gobaku (which is probably one of my favorite h!p songs, i really need to rewrite that list but gobaku is great lol) but it's a really great album and way too underrated. medatte do dance is a banger and feels like something amemori would do, and mirai e tsunagu yakusoku is one of my favorite h!p ballads (specifically it reminds me of gakkyuu inchou by s/mileage which is also one of my fav h!p ballads lol)

all in all, thanks everyone for all of these recs!!! ofc i can't get to all of it, but i'll try to listen to more of it over time, and this definitely helps me with choosing stuff to listen to instead of not knowing where to start and being super overwhelmed like i was before asking for recs lol
