I think it's in this state

I don't mean it in a bad way but it feels like they are afraid of the collapse like Sayashi who got pushed as an Ace very early 

It's like they are prepare for an Ace in a few years later by showing the current Ace candidates but no one is convinced

一番人気がストイックな鞘師→遊び心の佐藤というところがモー娘。の面白さ。

エースにしない方が人気を保てて事務所も儲かるしいいんじゃないかな。

まーヲタだって、単純な歌割りの多さよりも、佐藤が遊べるパートやハモりやユニゾンを聞きたがってる気がする

The most popular - stoic Sayashi -> Playful Sato is the interesting points of Momusu.

Keep her popularity like this and the office is also profitable from it, isn't this way better than making her an Ace

As for Maa wota, rather than just having a lot of singing parts, they seem to enjoy parts where Sato can be playful or her harmony/unison parts

Yeah she is Joker, later they can find someone like Sayashi or Takahashi but i think they will never find someone like Maachan again. 

Also, it's tough that you can't speak up freely afterall

OaOで当初佐藤に真っ赤なシャツを着せた所を見るに、鞘師卒業が回避できないとなった時点で事務所は次のエースを佐藤にすべく動き出した感じがあったけどな

しかし、当の佐藤があの衣装を嫌がったと何かで聞いた

あと、鞘師卒業後の佐藤は事あるごとに自分には鞘師のようなエースは無理だと言ってた

だから事務所も無理強いできず中途半端な扱いにならざるを得ないのかもな

It's hard to say if she's an Ace because everyone seems to have a different definition of 'Ace' in an idol group.

I tend to agree with the people who said she's the Joker or her position is Maachan.

Ace, if I go with a card deck metaphor, is the obvious winning card. Ace bears the presumption of success and importance.
The Joker on the other hand, has different uses. It's sometimes referred to as the wild card. In some games, it's the winning card. In others, it's the losing card. In some games you don't use the Joker and it can also be used as a spare card if you lose a card in the deck by just writing on the card.

That's kind of her image to me. She's not under any suit so she's usually alone. She can be what the group needs her to be, whether a lead singer, harmony or chorus. In some settings, she can turn people off because they might not get her. Some people are attracted by her uniqueness.

If I made a morning musume themed playing card deck, Maachan would definitely be the Joker(s)

Sadly she didn't do her usual concert or event routine. But as a make-up enthusiast I'm excited nontheless.

It's not very surprising that Maa uses a lot of expensive western products. Who the f**ck would buy lipstick from Burberry when they don't have too much money to spend? (for the guys here: a brand that is mainly known for their clothes so make-up is really just a 2nd income for them)

Hopefully some Japanese fans will do a master post of all the actual products. Anyway I did screenshots of everything and attempt to identify as much as possible over the next hour. Gonna update this post as soon as I find stuff.

You are definitely right regarding the foundation! I'm not sure about the eyebrow mascara and eyeliner yet. The packacking of these I found so far look different. Did you note the color "gradation" they do with the black dots and the shape of the eyeliner caps? I can't really see what's written on the eyeliners of Maa but the writing doesn't seem as prominent on it as it does on the Love Liner pictures I could find?

I too agree that Maa-chan is most like the Joker in the group. The wildcard, unpredictable.

Masaki is not at all the group's Ace! it would be more between mizuki and sakura!  but initially when there was sayashi in the group, sakura and sayashi was like tanaka and takahashi from the platinum era. But after the graduation of sayashi everything has changed mizuki more before sakura a little more and sato becomes one of the main singers. By cons the only aces of the group are goto maki, Kusumi Koharu and sayashi Riho so I do not know I saw in the comments you said Takahashi not all it was only by his voice and she was leader she was put before! The platinum era, teh ace was kusumi koharu who was center of the group and who sold better solo than in group. Tsunku had even declared Kusumi koharu was the most popular in the history of Hello Project  !!!!!!!

If you are going by main singers, yes it would be Sakura and Fukunura, if it was by popularity of course it would be Maachan.  But I consider her more of a Joker.  If she invested herself into being the center, she could easily be the ace.

I think the real debate whenever people argue whether Maachan is ace or not is what "Ace" really means.

 

a. "Center/Lead" = pushed by management;

b. "Most popular" = supported by fans;

c. "Best performer" = can do all the work really well;

d. All of the above; or

e. None of the above/Other definition.

 

I think Maachan is a good indicator of how responsive management is to the fans' opinions.

While she is recently being given more screen time, it's pretty obvious that she is not going to replace Fuku/Oda/Ishida/Morito in the center.

They give us enough Maachan to placate us but they're not drastically changing their main plans. This isn't necessarily out of favoritism. I think it's a safe business decision.

Given Maachan's lumbar disc herniation, she has a legitimate reason to quit any time. Her place in Morning Musume is really dependent on her own will.
