Even though some girls ranks dropped, they got a ton more votes than they did last year. Didn't the 11th place girl for 2011 get more votes than Yuko did to be center in 2010 or something?

I don't think it was mentioned yet, and not even sure if it matters except for future foreign appearances, but the results for Hong Kong election came out with some different results.

Numbers were probably lower since they were limited to CDs bought at the store or something like that. Regardless, Tomochin and Jurina are probably even less pleased to see these results.

BTW, this "Kami7" thing... is that some extra recentish concept? I first heard about/ noticed it during this election and I'm busy following AKB48 since few years now...

I agree, I can't recall last year this kind of buzz about kami7 concept.
In my opinion it's because of:
1) 2 girls (YukiRin and Takamina) brought it up in their speeches.
2) Tomochin as high profile girl was 1st out of top 7. It makes very nice dramatic headline for your average news report. Yukirin big jump inside top 7 and Itano out. Biggest rise and biggest fall among top girls. Journalism 101.

Takamina wanted also probably put a positive spin on her actual ranking fall. I would only imagine what went trough Tomochin head when just after her #8 girl speech Takamina pressed on that kami7 concept.

To clear up confusion.. Kami 7 is written as 神の7人 which means "The 7 Goddesses".

Just watching some old Ariyoshi AKB episodes and Kami7 is mentioned in the episode from 26th July 2010 already... fancy.

Really wonder why I didn't knew or learn about this earlier — perhaps I missed it back then, because my Japanese knowledge was even smaller than it is today.
